When you think about taking a walk with your pets, you normally think about walking your dog. Not Joyce Tormala. She takes a trio of cats along with her. Or maybe I should say, they take her along with them, since they seem to be waiting for the photographer in this beautiful autumn shot. A slow walk down a country trail is truly the way to enjoy the fall colors. You can take your time and smell all the harvest time scents along the path.

Looks tranquil. The cats look like they can use some exercise....

Yeah! I'm the first one (I think) Great colors this time of year! Wish I was there. Thanks for sharing!

The colors are gorgeous and I am looking forward to taking some of the walks - we leave SD next Friday for the UP and a weeks vacation. Are the leaves at their peak yet there - hope not? I do like it best though shortly after the peak when the leaves are starting to come down and the color is ALSO on the ground.

Wonderful picture. I knew it had to be Joyce.

As a kid growing up on the farm, my cats would go walking with me everywhere, I had one that would hop on my horse with me and go horseback riding. I also had a rabbit that my boyfriend, now husband, gave me that would go for walks with me on a leash.

By Danbury (Danbury) on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 08:11 am:

guess it comes as no surprise that you're not the only one, maija. The moment I saw the cats on the main page I thought ah, she-who-walks-with-cats.
Sorry, Joyce, but I haven't your name as memorized. Love your cat shots, though.

Fat chance my cats would ever be so cooperative. ;0) Looks like you've got a bit of color there, but bridge cam and Copper Harbor cam shots lead me to believe the Keweenaw isn't at peak, a tad behind Ontonagon County, where we've got lots of color and fallen leaves.

By dlp (Babyseal) on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 08:50 am:

I took my mom for a cruise to Ontonagon County on Sunday and I thought the colors were more colorful in Houghton County. Can't go by the colors on the Bridge Cam, that looks like it is stuck again. Now if the sun would come out, we'd be dazzled by the colors! Enjoy, the next color is white.

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 09:35 am:

Bernied -- BridgeCam is not live; that's a picture from several weeks back so you can't tell the state of the leaf color from it.

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 09:36 am:

Oooops, somebody already said that. Sorry to repeat. I do so wish it would be live again.

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 09:42 am:

Bernied -- Try this for the bridge area. The picture is not as good but it's live:

By Becky Edwards (Becky) on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 11:08 am:

why isn't the bridge cam live anymore?

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 11:21 am:

Becky -- Charlie explained the BridgeCam problem to us but I can't remember what he said. I do seem to remember that he said it would be live again "soon". I guess "soon" is relative.... I think it's been at least a couple of months since it's been live.

By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 11:30 am:

"why isn't the bridge cam live anymore?" More than likely because of Homeland Security i.e. fences around coal docks, no nail clippers on airplanes, plexiglass at the observation platform at the Soo Locks etc.

Joyce has some really great photos! This is just one of many.

Happy Birthday Dad!!!

By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 03:34 pm:

The BridgeCam was live after a couple of months of being down. Within days of it going live there was a big storm the took out the power and it never came back up.

Never been too lucky "herding cats" and I have a few and run an inner city animal shelter....My cats would love the freedom to run. Lucky cats..
