You definitely can feel fall in the air now and the cooler temperatures make jackets the needed attire when you're out and about like these two youngsters caught in the lens of John Sturos' camera. Looks like it might be the same pair from a couple of weeks ago, only this time we find them on land, taking their duck patrol duties seriously. The next stop was to take a load off their feet, while they watch the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse blinking across the way. When you see youngsters sitting quietly, taking in a beautiful scene like this, doesn't it make you wonder what's going through their minds?

The second shot could almost be a Rockwell painting....

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 08:13 am:

I love sweatshirt/jacket weather!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 08:20 am:

I hope they're appreciating the beauty that is theirs for the taking. What a gorgeous shot!!! I love being over there and just staring at the lighthouse. I have quite a few shots from that side.

By Danbury (Danbury) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 08:50 am:

Nigh on thirty years ago, that might as well have been my sister and me, though some thousand miles away, feeding ducks at the Havel (river). Her haircut fits, but I had some more, well, inbuilt insulation than the guy in the picture.
Which makes me say Amen to that, JanieT. couldn't you send some cool crisp fall air over here? We're getting 90's again.

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 08:58 am:

Danbury, I wish I could but, I really enjoy the fall season the best and I am going to keep every bit of it here with me that Nature will treat me to. I don't care for hot, humid summers. Then winter with tons of snow comes in at second place after fall.

looks beautiful, my wife and I (and two dogs-Kismet and Bear-) are coming up to Gay on going to stay at a cabin a couple of miles away during the week of Sept 30 on. How are the colors going to be? Any predictions? We can't waite, to rub elbows with the friendly people in Gay (bar) was up 2 years ago at Copper Harbour never forgot the time. Had to come back.

Great pics John :)
You can tell fall is around the corner by the Yooper outfit of sweatshirt and shorts ;)

By Shelly Harwood (Shelly) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 10:40 am:

I love the shorts/sweatshirt fashion! I tell my Texan friends all the time that that's high fashion in the U.P.!!!

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 10:48 am:

Louis: John Dee is still predicting the colors will peak the first week of October.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 10:56 am:

Is there really a need to own a sweatshirt in Texas??? ;-)

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 11:35 am:

These pictures are so adorable. I noticed them a few weeks ago when I checked out John's album.

By Cotton (Cotton) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 12:52 pm:

Those pictures of the two kids are so cute. My favorite is the second one. It reminds me of a picture of my cousin Jim & me taken when we were that age.

By Marvin & Elenore Hopf (Mehopf) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 01:34 pm:

The combination of precious children & beautiful scenery makes for some great pictures! The awe & wonder these children seem to be experiencing can still be felt by us old folks while gazing at the wonders of creation. Isn't it neat to be able to hang on to that part of childhood even into our 60's!!

By Shelly Harwood (Shelly) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 03:15 pm:

Capt. Paul,

I lived in Michigan for over 30 years, and thought that when I moved to Houston I would be able to throw away the typical "Fall Fashions". But I can say after 5 years of being here that in the winter months, it really does get cool enough to wear sweatshirts! I've even had to use my ice scraper a time or two, and 2 Christmas' ago it snowed!!!

By Bettsa Niskanen (Bettsa) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 04:18 pm:

What beautiful pictures.

By Carole (Carole) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 05:15 pm:

I plan on sitting on that bench in the second pic the week of Oct. 2nd. Staying at the Shoreline for a week to enjoy the colors, crisp autumn air, crashing waves (hopefully),looking for agates in front of the old camp at Sand Bay, drives along Cliff Dr., walking the shoreline at Brunett roadside park, breakfast at Slims, pizza at the Ambassador, good food at the Eagle Harbor Inn, saffron bread at Toni's and hopefully eating at the Hut. Cannot wait......

By Therese (Therese) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 05:28 pm:

Good grief, Shelly, actual snow on Christmas! It was a gift from all us in Michigan to your poor bereft state that suffers from chronic snow shortage. Just enjoy it when it comes, and trot out all your blizzard stories to impress your fellow Texans. :)

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 05:47 pm:

I guess I haven't been in Houston long enough Shelly to lose my "Yooper Blood" and aclamate myself to Houston weather. I still think it's just right here in January when eveyone else is bundled up in winter jackets and gloves!!

I remember the snow here in 04. My wifes father said when he got to the main road and saw a car skidding in front of him doing about 50 it was time to turn around and call in sick...

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 07:29 pm:

Carole, We'll be doing quite the same things starting on October 5th. We'll be UP there for about 5 days enjoying the fall weather. Hopefully the colors will still be beautiful. I want to do everything you mentioned. I can dream!

By Louis (Bookboy) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 08:13 pm:

Thanks Marsha and the rest for the info. Who knows may bump into one of you when were up there. We'll be staying on the beach right outside of Gay. If anybody has any thing eles to offer will be checking in, thank you all. see ya in First week of Oct.

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Thursday, September 7, 2006 - 09:45 pm:

Marvin & Elenore; AMEN to what you said. I'm with ya on that, particulary having spent most of my childhood in the Keweenaw!
