When I saw this photo in Michele Blau's album, I couldn't resist using it for a daily shot. Maybe that's because I just finished watching Bambi with my grandson or maybe it's just that this little fawn is adorable, even while looking a bit lost and scared. I don't really know the particulars of the spotted critter, but Michele had titled the picture "Lost Fawn - Hancock, MI". Maybe she can chime in and tell us more about the little deer.

Cute little fella!! How can anybody shoot these gorgeous creatures? I know, we'd be overrun if they'd didn't. But they're so beautiful.

This summer while at my dad's cottage I had an incredible
experience. While sitting under a pine tree to shade myself one of
those really hot afternoons, I heard a lot of splashing on the shore
below me. I peeked over the edge, and there were two fawns
splashing in the lake below. They were joined shortly by two
mature deer (one had small velvetty antlers) who joined the fawns
at play. Later, hearing a noise (not from me!), the older deer head-
butted the little ones to shore and they all disappeared into the
brush behind the lake.
No wonder I'm in culture shock this week as I return to work here in
Toronto.

Tell me again, Kosk, where your dad's cottage is. I've never seen deer playing in the water like that! You'll never forget it!

Great pic Michele. Even though we have an abundance of deer in the Indiana dunes, very seldom do you see a fawn...that's how protective the does are of their young ;) Not unusual to see the adult deer walking down the middle of the street (they're a more common sight around the lake than dogs)...but to see a fawn, now that's a special sighting :)

Oh, almost forgot: WELCOME BACK KOSK! WE MISSED YOU! :) :)

I agree with you cotton. we seem to be losing some of our friends on this site.

Hey Marty&Ben: CALM DOWN! If you guys saw this little one's daddy in November, you'd both probably roll the Truck over or drowned us in the beaver pond at Keystone! HA! Two and a half months til deer camp and good times!

We need photos of local landmarks that people can relate to. Pictures of birds, bees and bambi are not noteworthy in my opinion well that is my cent and a half in today’s economy.

We live in Houston, T e x a s, a city of 3 million people, with little else other than freeways with ugly traffic and bad tempered drivers, strip shopping malls, and cookie cutter subdivisions, to say nothing of intolerable heat and air pollution.

Wildlife is one of the things we cherish about the Upper Peninsula, and we enjoy seeing pictures of bears, deer, birds, and other creatures, as well as the forests, flowers, lakes, and rivers.

Best regards, Bill, Laura, & Ian

Great picture of "Bambi'!
Altho I love the people and landmark pictures too; it is the wilderness and the animal photos that really do it for me!
Oh, by the way, the reason that a lot of places are over run with deer is that most of the wolves have been killed off. :-(
And thats my 2 cents worth. :-)
Best wishes to all,
Renee in AL

Good to be back on PastyCam. Took me a long time to catch up on
all of the past messages for nearly a month!

Marsha--You're right, I'll never forget it. The cottage is on a small
lake near Ishpeming. On the weekend lots of cottagers are around,
but on week days it is really peaceful. Nevertheless, I've never seen
anything like that before.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 - 10:36 pm:

Mimi saw twin spotted fawns today close to US41 between Gladstone and Escanaba. She was worried that they were going to be hit by a car. There were 5 of them behind the house tonight when I went outside, but a passing car scared them into the hardwoods. They come up ot the house to eat the apples that fall on the ground. The deer and the turkeys, too.

Well my goal was achieved, to get a few more people to post. You have to admit it is summer and most folks are out and about and not on the computer and that is most likely the reason their are fewer posts.

By Michele Blau (Mblau) on Thursday, August 31, 2006 - 09:34 am:

Yes, he was lost in our neighbor's backyard garden about 2 weeks ago. This shot was taken about midnight. My daughter and her friends were trying to lead him back home. He took aff shortly after this photo was taken (without our help)
