One of the most scenic drives in the Copper Country has to be the stretch of M-26 between Eagle River and Eagle Harbor. Vistas of the lake and the sandy beaches (not typical on Lake Superior) can make for some slow traffic. Good thing there are many turn-offs, like the one our Pasty Cam photographer documented eight years ago.

We've scheduled an open house at Pasty Central Express, the new pasty-making kitchen behind The Hut restaurant in Kearsarge. Take a break from PastyFest on Saturday, July 1, and join us sometime between 3 and 7 pm to see the almost-complete new home for Pasty Central.

Sposed to be beautiful weather all 4th of July week, except the 1st where pasty fest might get a shower, unfortunately. We will surely be at this beautiful place, Great Sand Bay, at least part of each day, some of us agate hunting, some of us on the sand.

By Dr. Nat in Texas (Drnat) on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 - 04:33 pm:

Arenaceous = sandy

In geology, an arenite is a sandstone.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 - 05:32 pm:

So an arena is a "sandlot" ... in a way. See Online Etymology Dictionary
Don'cha just luv etymology?

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 - 05:50 pm:

When it comes to horse shows the show arenas are always sand.

By Richard A. Fields (Cherokeeyooper) on Thursday, June 29, 2006 - 12:11 am:

I am feeling a little melancholy tonight and thinking back. I thought I'd say good night with the words that go with Taps. Many folks don't know there are words, but here they are. This is the last bugle call played at night in the Army, and is very haunting and moving. Many nights I heard this at Ft. Hood. Going into the Fourth, it just seems appropriate.

"Day is done. Gone the sun, From the lake, From the hill, From the sky. All is well, Safely rest, God is nigh.

Thanks and praise, For our days 'Neath the sun, 'Neath the stars, 'Neath the sky. As we go, This we know: God is nigh."

Good night all.
