Alright, I see my original post didn't get posted first. Fine! lol Anyway, have a great day. I DID beat you Tim. But that's okay.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 01:10 pm:

Ok, we have a sorry amount of postings here today, so I guess I should comment on the weather or something! Beautiful day down here. Would be wonderful to be UP!

By Erica - Florida Keys (Erica) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 01:10 pm:

The season(tourist) seems to be slowly winding down here...stores,particularly Publix's ,are not so crowded. The weather is also heating up and that may have something to do with it,too. And hurricane season will soon be upon us..time to beat a path UP

By Charles in Adrian (Charlesinadrian) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 02:02 pm:

My wife received a very lovely retirement present from her
library staff last night, and Pasty.com has to be thanked for
making it possible. Knowing how much my wife loves the U.P.,
her staff commissioned a local stained glass artist to create a
picture based on one of the many lovely pics that Mary selects
each day. It is a photo by Ray Laakaniemi which Mary selected
to round out the month of August (I think) last year. It shows a
dock leading out into one of the U.P.'s many beautiful forested
lakes.

As it happens, I know Ray from our working together at
Adrian College some 35 years ago. I knew him then as a
photographer with a wonderful eye for lovely pics. So it stands
to reason you get a fine photographer out on his family's
property on a lovely lake in Iron County, and the results are
going to be pretty special. So now when we think of a house in
Esky, we have to make sure it has a window suitable for our
(notice it is part mine already?) beautiful new stained glass
artwork.

Left Chicago on Monday morning and arrived in Hancock early evening. Decided to drive up for a couple days of relaxation. (Gas prices are horrible !!!) Stayed at Ramada in Hancock which is always nice. Took a ride up to Copper Harbor. Just dirty snow piles left. Nothing open I found. Except the Laughing Loon which was nice. Not many people out and about though weather was great. Left Thursday morning to come home to Chicago. Enjoyed the couple days of wandering aimlessly around the Copper Country. Everyone should try it !!! (For about 18 years I have dreamed about living in the Keweenaw. I hope I do not have to wait to retire !!! I am only 38.)

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 05:55 pm:

DWO, Believe it or not, this is one of my favorite times to visit the UP, also. No tourists and plenty of time to just wander aimless around, and take in the sites. And being a waterfall fan, this is the best time to see the falls at their best, with the snow melting.

Charlesinadrian, So are you going to post a picture of the stained glass? What a wonderful and thoughtful gift...and one that you and your wife will enjoy for years to come. Good luck on your home search..I am sure you will find the perfect home, soon.

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 07:30 pm:

Hey - hey- hey Beverly and sur5er. Just got around to checking yesterdays "What's Up" and found your sassy references to my lil'darlin's the pairs of plastic flamingos I have for my yard! I've bought a pair each of last 3 springs while in Texas. And they're sooooo cute in my flower beds. But I may not be allowed to come home next year if I push it too much. :0 They really are nice if spread around well. Have a good evening all.

WHERE'S TIMS EARLY BIRD ???

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 09:16 pm:

Did you catch that Beverly...I might not have to go to wallymart for those flamingos, after all...I can just head over to Ms Katie's house, and 'borrow' hers ;)
Ms. Katie, I say that you should get as many flamingos as your heart desires...and if there's no room in the vehicle for hubby on the return trip home...well, oh well then. :)

By tom ghering (Tomgheringtcmi) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 10:23 pm:

Marylou.....I am sorry, but the sun does not come up over lake Michigan, unless you are in Wisconsin...

By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 11:07 pm:

Tom how about the sunrise from just south of Escanaba,MI on up the cost. The last time I checked that would be the West cost of Lake Michigan ;')

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Saturday, April 22, 2006 - 12:01 am:

Ah sur5er, I can't imagine a pink flamingo with a French Maids uniform - and pink tail feathers.
What say we have Miss Katie try it out in her yard and see how the public responds to them. :)Make that uniform in black with a white tutu underslip. Seems to me those birds are always standing on one foot like a ballerina. Oh my Gosh, I can just see it now.

By Inwis (Inwis) on Saturday, April 22, 2006 - 12:17 am:

Try a sunrise.. over Lake Michigan, from the East coast of the Garden Peninsula in the U.P.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Saturday, April 22, 2006 - 01:30 am:

Beverly, I got to wondering today, what would happen if I stuck one of those plastic flamingos in the sand dunes out here by the lake. I wonder how many tourists, would be snapping pictures of it ;) That would be the most famous flamingo in a french maid's uniform with a tutu, eh.

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Saturday, April 22, 2006 - 01:50 am:

Oh my gosh....someone would surely be screaming Global Warming. :)

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Saturday, April 22, 2006 - 03:30 am:

We would have to post a sign, "please do not feed the flamingos" :)

By Mary Lou Curtin (Marylou) on Saturday, April 22, 2006 - 08:43 am:

Tom.....We have a beautiful sun rise over Lake Michigan here in Escanaba.....Michigan.....we are on the bottom of the Upper Peninsula and here in town we face south east...it is a beautiful shore line..sandy beach and beautiful harbors......different from Lake Superior but just as beautiful in it's own way.......come on up an see for yourself!!!...I know a lot of Yoopers do not know Escanaba because it is out of the usual path to lower Mich or Wisc.....but it is a great town....with a beautiful sunrise...... over Lake Michigan

By tom ghering (Tomgheringtcmi) on Saturday, April 22, 2006 - 09:37 am:

Ooooops... I saw Ludington park and I assumed...

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Saturday, April 22, 2006 - 10:24 am:

Marylou--

You have inspired me. I'll try to make sure to
drive to Escanaba this summer. It's been a
long time. I either come to the UP via the Soo
or hook up with M-28 via 77 at Blaney Park. I
love Lake Michigan and will try to see more of
it.

By Mary Lou Curtin (Marylou) on Saturday, April 22, 2006 - 11:17 am:

Kosk....glad I inspired you to come to Escanaba..give me a call when you come through and we can do lunch or whatever...I do spend a lot of time in Lake Linden in the summer cause that is "home of my youth"..but you may catch me home..I'd love it.... we can discuss the Mohawk influence in the U.P......GO Blue.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Saturday, April 22, 2006 - 03:54 pm:

Sounds nice!
