Another first on the Pasty Cam - a picture taken by me instead of Jonathan. He finally let me get my hands on the Sony Mavica, and I think this may have been the first shot I ever took.

Our family moved to Eagle River in 1988, as I semi-retired from the software business so that we could work with Gitche Gumee. Edie served as the head housekeeper for many years, and I was the program director during youth weeks, supervising sports, hikes, swimming, etc. Maybe that had some influence in our projects years later, when we started streaming local radio broadcasts of high school basketball, hockey and football on Pasty.NET.

Morning All.
Was wondering if everyone was tired out from all the posting done on Sunday? Enjoy the day everyone.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 09:02 am:

It was quite a day for posting eh? I thoroughly enjoyed it. The banter was great! Happy day everyone. (This is my 2nd post but I see the other one is not on here. Wonder what happened?)

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 09:06 am:

It's cool when something I post inspires a lot of conversation, especially on a weekend! It's more cool, though, when it's a picture I've actually photographed (like the one of Ambassador's tostada pizza--My daughter said "You took a picture of your food?!!!") Have a great (sunny) day!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 09:30 am:

Yesterday I made stew for tonight and I made it with regular beef since the corned beef was inhaled on Ste. Paddy's day. When I was single my girlfriend wanted to make a pizza and we did it together, but the oven in my apartment didn't work so we used the barbcue pit outside. Worked but never tried it again. Maybe that is why she dumped me, and married someone else. Now I could cook anything that anyone wants as long as I have a recipe. Going to look at my sons new house, when they move it will be lonely here.

Happy First Day of Spring!!!! (calendar wise)

By happyooper (Trigal) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 12:32 pm:

It's not officially spring until 1:26PM. :D

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 12:34 pm:

That must be why the wind still feels so brisk!

By Nate (Nalwine) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 01:25 pm:

I wondered if someone was going to call me on that :p I was also wondering what time spring actually came! Well then, now we can officially say happy spring!

By Seismic Pirate (Marc) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 01:46 pm:

Hey Mikie,
You bring back great memories of pizza on the grill. Years ago in college, a bunch of us would get together for dinner parties-always a different theme such as wild game, seafood, even a Star Trek dinner which featured delicacies such as baked tribbles, grilled Botany Bay ear wigs, Romulan ale and chilled transporter accidents (don't ask). Probably our best dinner was grilling individual pizzas-everyone brought a couple different toppings and we grilled for hours:) The trick was getting the pizza on to the grill. We used upside down, floured, paper plates to slid the little buggers on to the grill after a couple of failed attempts.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 02:00 pm:

Marsha, I remember your picture of the Ambassador pizza. Personally, I think it should be enlarged, and made into a poster :)
Mikie, I'm in the same boat, with my daughter having moved back home, until her and her fiance find a place. And now that she is back home once again, I am not looking forward to when she moves out again...as I rather enjoy the company. Will definately take awhile to adjust to the quietness of the house, once she moves out...again.

Happy Spring everyone...only 3 more months until I put my pool up ;)

By happyooper (Trigal) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 04:38 pm:

Actually Nate, I heard that on the radio this morning. The DJ said to impress your friends and co-workers...Are you impressed?? :)

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 05:55 pm:

Cool pictures.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 06:42 pm:

By Nate (Nalwine) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 06:44 pm:

Happyyooper I am very impressed. On my way to work I actually wondered what time spring arrived. And all day long no one knew the answer except you.

By scott perkins (Scotty) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 07:17 pm:

Hola from Boca Raton, Fl. finally made it out of the keys and are moving at least. Miami is totally nuts on the weekends, between spring breakers and the regular suspects I didn't even travel on sunday just sat and watched crazy people zoom all around on jetskis, one almost hit my anchor chain which hangs straight down from the bow of my boat. Spring has sprung !!!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 08:23 pm:

I am in culture shock. In the short time I was
in the UP, I managed to see a lot of sights and
people. Our dog, Rusty, had a marvelous
reunion with my daughter. He bunked in with
her the three nights we were up there.

Though I never had a pasty or juustoa, I did
have nissua and thimbleberry jam, pizza at the
Congress in Ishpeming, pizza at the
Ambassador in Houghton and harrowing
moments trying to see around the snow
banks in many towns. Oh yes, also whitefish
at the Brownstone Inn.

It was terrific to see the cottage again. The
road wasn't plowed, so we scrambled over
three foot high drifts to make it to the door.
The Christmas tree stand was still there,
looking a little forlorn. Rusty charged all over
and up and down the road leading to the lake.

The waves on the Big Lake were huge. "The
stars did shine bright on the South Shore" for
all of the nights I was there, but were even
more spectacular in land on my cousin's farm
near Pelkie. We saw three deer, one weasel,
two gray wolves and an eagle.

Saying good-bye is hard to do--to people and
places. Can't wait til May when once again I'll
trundle to the UP. Some people leave their
hearts in San Francisco...mine stretches over
many counties in the UP.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 08:50 pm:

Hey Kosk glad to have you back. I knew you'd enjoy your trip. What's a trip to the UP without a stop at the Ambassador eh? I know we can never make it there without going at least once. I always get the raviolis though. They are SO good. How much did you pay for the thimbleberry jam? Ours cost as much as the sugar, sure-jel, and jars. We pick our own berries and make it ourselves. It is delicious!
I'm sure the waves were huge at this time of year. Too bad it wasn't warm enough to go body surfing. There's nothing like it in the big lake. I'll be joining you in May. Will be visiting over Memorial weekend. I hope the weather is nice. Did you find your books? I sure hope so. Until May, try to make it through. lol

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 - 12:45 am:

Kosk, Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your family in the UP. I love reading your posts of your travels to the UP...as I am sure everyone else does...because you have a way of taking us all back home with you. Thank you ;)
Scotty, have a safe trip home to the UP ;)
Mikie, that sounds exactly like what we mommies go through after we put so much effort into making a meal...only to have everyone decide they want something else. Good thing stew freezes, eh.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 - 06:36 am:

Usedtobeayooper:
I did find the books at a little bookstore in
Plymouth, Michigan. My daughter was
pleased. About the jam--I am really lucky.
Another one of my cousins makes it and gives
it as Christmas presents. Yum. I will try the
raviolis next time.

Sur5er:
I'm glad the posts feel that way to you. I
always have the notion that I travel with many
sets of invisible eyes. Eyes that are longing to
see what I'm seeing. Sound weird?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 - 07:32 pm:

Sur5er, You're absolutely right. Kosk definitely has a way with words. I almost felt like I was there eating my raviolis with her at the Ambassador.
