Mornin' all! ...Have a great day... It's gonna be in the 30's here in MN all week again. I think by the end of the week, the 1/2 inch of snow that's left will be gone.

If we want to know what we are, who we are, where we are,
we must turn our backs on our machines & gadgets
and venture out boldly and freely this Thursday,
and truly experience GROUNDHOG DAY

Wonderful, Yooper!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Monday, January 30, 2006 - 11:38 am:

Good morning everyone :) Trying to get into the groove of the work week.
Charlotte, Any snow in our forecast?

By NKR (Nkr) on Monday, January 30, 2006 - 11:53 am:

Hello from Mishawaka IN. Hey Sur5er, I think we are suppose to have flurries tomorrow, but no accumulation. We were suppose to have flurries this morning, but I didn't see them. Good one Yooper!

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Monday, January 30, 2006 - 12:52 pm:

Good afternoon from Mishawaka, IN. Sur5er and NKR hasn't been any snow so far today that I've seen. In fact at noon they said no accumulation today or tonight. A slight chance for snow and/or rain later in the week. Doesn't sound good.

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Monday, January 30, 2006 - 02:49 pm: you visiuals. By the way what exactly what are they called, graphics, cartoons what? As my aunt Viginia and my late mom, from the UP would say..."what-cha-ma-call-its". Can you yoopers tell me if that's a universal phrase of the UP area?

By happyooper (Trigal) on Monday, January 30, 2006 - 03:38 pm:

'Whitchamacallits' and 'thingamajigs' are definitely widely used here. At least in the Houghton/Keweenaw area. :)
I call Yooper's 'whitchamacallits' animations.

Somewhere on the net is a paper done on the Yooper dialect. I have a long-time friend who is a linguist who mentioned it to me several years ago. I'll see if I can dig it up and post a link when I finally get home. Finally leaving my ship in 2 hours:) 12,500 miles and 72 hours to go...

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Monday, January 30, 2006 - 05:36 pm:

Marc, Have a safe trip home to your family...and may you have a wonderful homecoming :)

NKR and Charlotte: We have snow :)

Ms.Katie: I agree...'whatchamacallit' and 'thingamajig' must be Michigan phrases, because they aren't used very widely, here in Indiana. Whenever I use those terms, people give me that puzzled look...or chuckle at it.

Question: is the term 'goandfetchers' a Michigan term? Nope...they aren't familiar with that term out here either. You know...goandfetchers...those thingamajigs that you use to fetch the hotdogs off the grill.

By Seismic Pirate (Marc) on Monday, January 30, 2006 - 05:57 pm:

Thanks Sur5er,
The whole family is planning to meet me and I can't wait:)

By Frederic W. Koski (Fred) on Monday, January 30, 2006 - 06:10 pm:

Yoopers animations are called "animated gifs",
a really good one today.

That's a great one Yooper! I always look forward to your pictures. :)
