First Post

By Margo (Margo) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 06:31 am:

Good Morning. It looks like we'll be digging out of the 4 to 7 inches of snow in SE Michigan in 24 hours.

5-8 inches of snow predicted for SW Michigan tonight, but then 40 degrees by Sunday. Good Morning and good weekend all!

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 07:34 am:

Yikes! How cold is the water.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 11:07 am:

Llamamama and Margo, Finally we're getting some snow :) Let it snow...let it snow...let it snow :) I was going to grill steaks tomorrow night...but figure I will do it tonight instead, so I don't have to dig the grill out of the snow, tomorrow night ;)
Hi Margaret...haven't talked to you in a bit...hope all is fine with you. Don't think I would even want to imagine how cold that water is ....brrrrrr.

By happyooper (Trigal) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 11:37 am:

It's cold. Really cold. :)

By Lorelei (Lorelei) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 01:09 pm:

Sur5er,
What time is dinner? Grab 2 extra steaks. My hubby and I will join you. We were craving fish sticks and french fries and then you had to mention the steaks. Now my dinner doesn't even sound 1/2 as good as yours :(

By It's Me (Yooper) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 02:00 pm:

Sur5er, I'm coming over for dinner. bbqm

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 04:13 pm:

Yooper I love the graphic...thank you. Lorelei and Yooper, I just popped the potatoes into the oven, and will be starting the fire in a bit...so hurry up and get over here. So which one of you is bringing the beer?

Charlotte, have a safe trip tonight, with the school team. The rain just started here, about half an hour ago, and the temps are a dropping fast.

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 05:26 pm:

Majestic birds aren't they! My wife and I saw one west of St. Ignace several years ago, sitting on a deer carcass, on the shoulder of US 2. We stopped and backed up. He stayed right there and double dog dared us to get out of the car. We watched him for a couple of minutes and went on. No camera!!! While in Alaska 10 years ago, we saw literally hundreds of them around a fish cannery.
Sur5er, what did I tell you about getting what you wish for? Enjoy your cookout! We had one here on the 8th of January for a daughter's B'Day. Now that I've shot my mouth off, who will tell me how to make the little degree sign on this fancy keyboard? I've read it here before but like my wife says,I didn't close my mouth long enough to let my brain absorb it! Charlotte, I did that scorekeeping thing for 30 years, but I all ways drove my car to the games.

By It's Me (Yooper) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 07:02 pm:

Beer??? I'm not allowed to drink! My mom told me I have to wait until I'm 21. :(

"...who will tell me how to make the little degree sign on this fancy keyboard?"

Like so: \ch{deg}

as in -20°

Mary says: You can also make the degree symbol by holding down the Alt key (next to the space bar), while using the number keypad on the right of your keyboard to type 0176 . When you let up on the Alt key, the degree symbol should be there!

By Margo (Margo) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 10:40 pm:

Thanks Mary, I too wondered how it was done. Thanks.... All I have to do, now is remember it.

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 11:02 pm:

Sur5er, It was a safe trip to the game and back. It started raining as we left school for Elkhart. Was still misting when we came back. Oh, yea Mishawaka beat Elkhart Central 51-44. Not a pretty game but a win none the less. Team is now 12-2 on the season.

Paulwebtroll, I could drive to the games if I wanted but it's just easier to go with the team. I live 2 blocks from school so I just walk there and back. I've been doing this about 15 years or so. Some years, like this, it's only a couple of games and some it's a lot more. I started keeping the book for myself so I didn't yell during the games so much. My oldest son, Andy, had start doing it when he was about 12. He went on to be the MHS statistian for both girls and guys for all four years of high school. Did it at Manchester College for 4 years. Came back to MHS and taught doing stats until his untimely death in April 1999. So in some ways doing the book helps me feel close to him.

Enough rambling from me for this evening. Have a great weekend everyone. Oh, now they've changed our chances of snow and amount if we get any to an inch or two. Bah humbug!!!!!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 11:44 pm:

Charlotte, Congrats on your win. Go Mishawaka! OMG, can it possibly rain any more? That's all it's been doing since 3pm...rain...more rain...and OMG even more rain.

Charlotte, I am so sorry about your son's death in 1999. How in the heck does a parent survive something so horrendous as that? ((((((((((((HUGS))))))))
That's amazing that your son did statistics. Chief Kanavel taught me how to do statistics ... and it is something that I love. It's amazing what you can do with numbers. I loved being able to explain to one of the senators recently, "to you, these numbers look correct...but let me show you how these numbers are manipulated, to look correct, when they're not". Definately not a boring field, as some people think ;)

Paulwebbtroll, Did you happen to get a look see at our forecast? They promise us 4-8 inches of wonderful snow...and what do Charlotte and I get out here in Indiana...but rain..and oh yeah, let's not forget about the sleet.
But I think I know why Indiana is getting nothing but rain this winter. You see, when I was in Michigan over Labor Day weekend, I went and got some of those expensive snow windshield wiper blades, for my truck...so I would be all prepared for winter, you know.
But what am I tearing the heck out of them on...but on rain...because they don't bend like the regular blades. So when I turn them on...when it rains instead of snowing...you can hear the rubber scraping loudly against the windshield. It sounds like this: "$50 down the drain...$50 down the drain..." Sigh.
