Debbie Jarve is at it again, with the mirrored view from across the Portage Canal. Wintry weather, snow and frost make for a completely different scene, but still pretty in it’s own way. We’ve been experiencing much cooler days, some with snow showers, some with rain showers and some with neither. For the time being, the rain showers melt the snow that’s fallen so far.

Lots of mining history over there on the Ripley side of the canal. Here is some tour information for the Quincy Smelter: Regularly scheduled tours are no longer offered, but we now do winter tours! Off-season tours can be scheduled by calling the Gift Shop at (906) 482-3101. We have a four-guest minimum, and can usually accommodate visitors within 24 hours.

Visit Keweenaw is giving us a few tips on how to prepare for winter here in the Copper Country. Stack the firewood, put the shovels by the door, apply fresh wax to your skis and get your snowshoes ready. Before you know it the winter trails will be open and you can get out and enjoy the snow we’ll be getting this winter.

You’re absolutely right, Mary; “a completely different scene”.
These pix almost look like black and white photos.

There is definitely beauty in these
pictures. Different but beautiful.

Here in yooper country, I'm pretty sure
people know when to start readying for
winter. Having just moved back from
Minnesota, though, I'm still a month behind
readying for it and a month ahead getting
ready for summer. That makes for 2 extra
months of winter for us UP here, lol.

Some cameras let you pull one color. These sure
look like it. Beautiful!!

Beautiful photos. I think the lack of color saturation is due to the very low light at dusk (or dawn) in combination with the dense overcast.

I got a laugh from my Chrome browser's Live Caption interpretation of Keweenaw. It came up with the word "kiwina". And I'm NEVER prepared for Winter.
