Sled dog races have become a popular event here in the Copper Country. The Copper Dog 150 took place this past weekend with crowds of people in attendance at the start line, in Copper Harbor and at many crossing points along the way. Judy Byykkonen was on hand in Calumet Friday evening for the start and then in Copper Harbor on Saturday, getting some great shots of the dogs, anxiously waiting to get back on the trails again. For more information about the times and mushers, check out this link: Copper Dog 150. There are a number of links at the top of their page where you can find out more about the results of the races.

Jeff Dennis was also there on 5th Street in Calumet for the start of the races. You can see the excitement of the whole event in his video.

I saw these pictures on Facebook and they're just
so good. I very much enjoyed them. The video is
good also. Very exciting!

Nice set and the one good thing about it happening in the winter is

that you trip over the frozen dog poop instead of stepping in it.

Great looking pics and video. Beautiful dogs as
well.

Glad to see they were able to hold this special even after Marquette had to cancel. Thanks for the great pictures and video!

WATCHOUT WHERE THE HUSKIE'S GO, YOU KNOW THEY EAT
THEIR YELLOW SNOW!!

By Donna (Donna) on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 - 11:05 am:

How outstanding, and I love the smiling
dogs....They all smile and cannot wait to get
running.

Alex...lol...no doubt. We had collies in our house
as kids....in the Spring, Dad would send the boys
out with their hockey sticks to slapshot the
"ornaments" across the road to the empty lot. (the
lot is still empty.) Cleaned it up good too!

Hi
Uncle Chuck, the lyric I remember is "Watch out
where those huskies go; don't eat that yellow snow".

Once my company had some visitors from India who
wanted to try cross-country skiing. I volunteered to
take them, at a local county park. Conditions were
near perfect. However, they got thirsty and asked if
there was a drinking fountain. I told them no, but
that they could eat the snow. They were amazed and
amused. I then sang the cautionary verse above.
