Spring is a great time to visit Isle Royale. It may be cooler, but normally the bugs haven’t arrived yet and neither have the many visitors, so you have the trails and waterways mostly to yourself. Rachel Griffin recently spent a few days there and found the peace and beauty that the Island is famous for. She starts out at Rock Harbor where the water was calm and the sunshine bright. The views are spectacular and she was even treated to a moose spotting while there. Rachel described her first trip to the Island as peaceful and refreshing, a great reset that was much needed.

Another spring experience UP North is the return to lake and river fishing. We join MI Playground’s, Nick and Andy, along with their Dad, for some fishing on the St. Mary’s River in the Sault Ste. Marie area. Just like visiting Isle Royale, fishing is also great therapy for those times when you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the world.

Beautiful pictures. It's never been a
desire of mine to go to to the island. It's
beautiful and peaceful but it's definitely
not for me.

It's definitely time to get out there to
catch some fish, though.

I'm with Deb...never hit the island...and couldn't
now if I did! They showed Elizabeth and crew on
Upper Michigan Today. They did a tour of them
camping on Isle Royale...very cool tour.

Hi
I'd like to see Isle Royale, but no back-country
camping for me. I have respect for those who do, but
I don't think I'd enjoy it.

Isle Royale is the setting for two murder mysteries
written by Nevada Barr: A Superior Death and Winter
Study. The protagonist, a park ranger named Anna
Pigeon, is always running across trouble in the
National Parks.
