The sun was shining on the WIND (Women in New Directions) ladies, but it still looks like it may have been a bit chilly on the shores of Lake Superior at McLain Park. Judy Byykkonen and the ladies did some hiking along the trails and walked along the somewhat icy shoreline one evening last week. Even if you have to bundle up a bit, it’s still great to be able to enjoy the Big Lake, the fresh air, the waves and the company of friends.

Judy made a video of quite a large ice chunk there, also, with some icy Superior waters washing up against it, helping it to gradually melt off into the Big Lake in the near future. Amazing how much the ice builds up like that, but only in certain areas. Too bad there’s no webcam in this spot, we could take guesses as to when it will finally break away and float off into the vast waters of Lake Superior.

Nice set and a head-banger video!

Your idea about taking guesses as to when the ice
would break away made me remember something I read.
In Garrison Keillor's book Lake Wobegone Days, the
fictional Sons of Knute drove an old car out onto
the spring ice, with a chain on the axle. They sold
raffle tickets for guesses as to the date and time
the car would fall into the lake.

Really nice pictures and video. These
ladies like the cold much more than I do,
lol. We did go to the lake yesterday,
though. Wanted to check out the Eagle River
Falls so checked out the lake and the mouth
of the river. The water was such a
brilliant blue. It was really nice to see
it that way after all the months of white
and gray.

Alaska does a 50/50 on something falling through
the ice. I sent in four tickets. I got the date,
but not the time. Over 200K this year~
