Yes, we had another ice storm this past week, started with rain on Tuesday afternoon and by Wednesday morning the schools were closed all over the U.P. and we had thick ice covering everything. Here in the Keweenaw many folks lost power, some for a few hours, others for over 24 hours. We were fortunate that we have a generator to start up so we still had power for heat, the water pump in the well and for my laptop, since I was working from home for my “other” job that day.

I mentioned that it was all over the U.P. and these photos from Laurie Bashaw show what it was like at her Ishpeming home with icicles hanging from their deck railings and decorating their bird feeders like an icy veil hanging like a shade from the tops of them. Everything outdoors was iced, especially the roads and walking surfaces, so if you didn’t have to go out anywhere, you were best to stay inside.

Here in the Keweenaw, we had the ice, then it started snowing on top of that, so we had layers of ice, snow and more ice again. Crazy weather for sure.

Today’s video comes from Northwoods to Nautical, addressing “Old Man Winter”, remarking about the amounts of snow he’s been busy burying us with. They mention 276” of snow, but since this video was made, the Keweenaw has surpassed 300” now and we’re gearing up for another possible dumping of snow on Wednesday and Thursday this week, which could be anywhere from a foot, to over 30”. Looks like Old Man Winter doesn’t know it’s Spring now and time to move along.

Icy beauty.

Love the video! I'm sure the local residents have had it with winter but those dogs sure do like frolicking in the snow . . . and chomping on it too!

I love that video. I'm a subscriber to their
channel, and they have some of the most stunning
videos you will ever see....And those dogs...just
love them!

I love this time of year...right before mud
season. I don't go outside and deal with it, so
I'm fortunate to enjoy it from the inside....but
on the other hand....slip sliding around, getting
fantastic pics...I'd really love to be able to do
that! I wanna trudge through the snow with
Northwoods to Nautical! THAT's living the life
right there!

Loved that video. Those dogs were having so
much fun. And bless their owner for playing
with them like that.

The pictures are stunning! You wouldn't
want to be out in that but it sure makes for
beautiful scenery.

Come on, though. Enough is enough. We drove
down to Orange Beach, Alabama this weekend.
It was 80 degrees when we got here. Sure do
wish I could bring it back with me.

Hi
Hope you Yoopers get some relief soon. I've seen the
weather maps during the TV news, where you are
getting snow & freezing rain while we are getting
rain, or maybe a dusting of snow like yesterday
morning.

I'm all warmed up, cause that's a lot-a margaritas,
Jimmy.

I do not see the birds working with ice picks to get
at the seed? Where are they? Too covered with ice to
fly?
