Debbie Jarvi sent these Hoar Frost photos that she snapped this past Saturday morning. It never ceases to amaze me how nature changes things up so quickly. We have been enjoying some warmer temperatures and then we wake up to a heavy frost that covers all the trees, turning them all completely white. The evergreens covered in frost remind me of the Christmas trees that are completely white. My Grandma used to have one and as a little girl, I always wondered how she made it white like that.

Speaking of wondering about things, if you ever were curious about how the Big Spring, Kitch-iti-kipi came to be, then today you’re in luck. Alexis Dahl shares her research, with the following “lead-in” from her page: “Hidden in a forest in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is an unreasonably beautiful, vividly-colored spring called Kitch-iti-kipi — and the story of how it got there is arguably just as incredible: because in a way, this spring formed over more than 400 million years... and also, in an instant.”

I love when the snow looks like that. It
makes the trees look so frosty. We have
that this morning, well that mixed with ice.
It's been sliding off of the house all
night. Very cool to sit at the kitchen table
and watch it fall off. Scares the crap out
of you, lol. Anyway, nice pictures. My
favorite is the 3rd one.

Another cool video, Alexis.

Big Spring was an annual pilgrimage when our family
went UP north back in the 60s'.

OUTSTANDING PICS! I love how beautiful we are no
matter what the weather does.

And I love Alexis and her vids. She is just
amazing.

just saw this:

Statewide Tornado Alert Test Today

Michigan authorities will conduct a statewide
tornado drill this afternoon.

If all goes as planned, at 1:00 radio stations
will air Emergency Alert System tones and
messages. Community warning sirens will sound, and
messages will be delivered to enabled cell phones.

It’s just a test – part of Michigan’s Severe
Weather Awareness Week.

Great photos and a really interesting video today. Alexis is great! Just watched another one of hers about Dredge #2 in Torch Lake. Now I know exactly what stamp sand is, too!
