Barbara Bouwkamp always finds something interesting to photograph and share with us, but today she’s outdone herself. We start off with Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity members participating in what they call the “Grundy Run”, where they run from Michigan Tech’s Walker Arts Building and end at their fraternity house at 1020 College Ave…in their underwear. They do this to raise money for Special Olympics, this year raising somewhere around $5000. Folks donations are exchanged for ‘sponsoring’ a runner with a picture or phrase drawn on them. You can see there’s something written on the backs of the runners in the second photo. Such a fun way to raise money for a good cause.

The second two photos, Barbara captured when she was driving by someone’s house in Laurium and noticed black dots in the snowy evergreen tree, so she stopped to snap some photos. She said they were some type of black birds and were chirping away when she took these shots. They look too big to be starlings, so I’m guessing maybe crows? But do crows chirp? What type of birds do you think they are? No matter what they are, they sure stand out against the snow-covered branches.

So to accompany Barb’s “interesting” photos, we have an equally interesting video. It’s Dave Moore’s poem about a popular winter activity in the snowy states. This one made me chuckle for sure and it’s a winter activity I participate in, too.

Those first two pictures make me cold, lol.
I do get very warm when I'm outside
shoveling and I have to come in to take my
sweatshirt off. But I'm not THAT warm. And I
have no idea what kind of birds those are.

Omgosh that video made me laugh out loud. I
LOVE kicking that off. When I was working,
I'd even kick it off of whoever was parked
near me. Gives you a feeling of
accomplishment lol.

I used to keep an old hammer in my car, drive to a
road that didn't have much traffic, hammer those
huge ice chunks off my car and drive on down the
road. Used to keep an old kitchen broom in the car
for my snow brush too....that was THE BEST snow
broom ever. Get a new broom for the kitchen and
throw the other one in your car..I promise..you
won't regret that one!

I sponsored a friend down here who did the Polar
Plunge into Walled Lake last weekend for the same
cause. SISU at it's finest for sure!! :=))

starting each morning with kicking some chunks."

The video disappeared. What'd I miss?

Sorry for the video glitch, we're trying to discover
what happened.
