If you’re thinking about checking out the fishing at Big Traverse, think again. The river is iced in, but doesn’t look thick enough for any ice fishing. Thanks to Walter and Jeff Dennis, along with E. Neil Harri, we get a good look at the winter conditions there.

The first photo, showing the Traverse River with three fishing boats was snapped by Walter Dennis. The second photo looking at the iced over breakwall/pier was taken by Jeff Dennis. That reddish object at the beginning of the pier is a sign that stands about 5 feet tall which warns: DANGER – Waves flood surface, keep off during storms. So you can see how much ice has formed out there now.

The bottom two photos were captured by E. Neil Harri on a recent flight and show the expanse quite well with the breakwall and the shoreline heading out toward Gay. You can also see the ice in the channel going to the Traverse River.

Then Walter takes us on a video tour of the area, checking out the Traverse River first, along with the Lake Superior shoreline, too. Not much ice has formed on the shoreline out there yet.
