We continue our adventures with Laurie Bashaw today, with their last stop on their way back home from the eastern end of the U.P….Tahquamenon Falls in the Paradise area. I personally have only been there once, during the summer months and it was packed with people, so I’m guessing this would be a better time to visit the falls if you don’t want to deal with so many visitors. Recall from yesterday’s story, Laurie mentioned how cold it was at Whitefish Point with -14, with a -31 windchill, but she said by the time they got to Tahquamenon Falls it was -5, still cold, but 9 degrees warmer, most likely due to being away from Lake Superior. Everything there at the falls though, was just as frozen as the lakeshore was, except for the middle portion of the falls, which was still flowing quite rapidly. I like how you can see the steam rising in the last photo, a telltale sign that the air is much colder than the water of the falls. Laurie said they didn’t spend a lot of time there, because of the cold they hurried up their visit. Still beautiful, despite the frigid temperatures.

Pure Michigan shares a snowshoeing adventure with Teresa Neal, a park naturalist at the Tahquamenon Falls State Park, exploring the sights and sounds of winter at the Falls.

Hi
I've been there in the winter a few times. When I &
my party were younger & stupid--er, less cautious--
we went out on the river on our skis and looked up
at the falls.

These pictures are beautiful. I'm glad some
of you people are brave enough to go out in
that weather to get such gorgeous pictures.
Thanks for sharing them with us.
