Boat watchers here in the Copper Country get excited when they know the salt boats are coming to deliver the winter supply of salt for the roads. In the past couple weeks, two deliveries were made, most recently, the Algoma Conveyor came to town, but had to wait out the rough water at the Portage Lake Upper Entry. Jeff Dennis snapped a couple photos of it anchored out, while waiting and hoping for it to be able to make its way into the canal.

That didn’t happen though, until the next day. Nancy Crouch was out kayaking on the Canal when the Conveyor was coming through. She said the water started swirling around her and she had to paddle her hardest, as it was starting to move her around in the water and she wasn’t even that close. Nancy said she learned another lesson that day!

The bottom two photos were taken by Walter Dennis a few weeks earlier, when the Algoma Innovator came to town to deliver the first load of salt. The last photo gives us a good perspective of just how big those freighters are. Check out the house and dock right next to the Innovator. Holy Wah, that’s a BIG boat!

Walter Dennis also shares his video of the Innovator as it unloads the salt in Hancock. Check out the orange lifeboat on the rack on the stern of the boat. It’s just like the one in the 2013 film, Captain Phillips}. Interesting launch into the water of a lifeboat like this.

These pictures are awesome

That was a fun day watching it from the
Calumet Waterworks and then making our way to
McLain Park to watch it enter the canal. We
saw it get closer and then lost it in the rain
that was coming down very hard at that time.
We got pretty wet but it was worth it. It was
just about to enter the canal and the ship
missed its turn, being blown around by the
wind. We waited a while and then heard they
were going to wait just outside of the canal
until the wind died down. So we left. But I
got some cool pictures and it was a very fun
day.

What stimuli can we verdict as the desire for our wants? The world and its promise of self satisfaction, and a better way of living? i.e... ..."You deserve a break today" (Ronald McDonald)
..."Be all you can be" (G. I. Joe)
---------------------------------------------------
Perhaps we as a whole should be a little more content with what we have, it leaves a lot less room for disappointment from life's missed opportunities!!
