We join E. Neil Harri for the second day in a row, but this time we’re flying over Kearsarge, along U.S. Highway 41, with a look-see at the USS Kearsarge Veterans Memorial. Along with his photos, Neil invites everyone to “Stop by to see your name on the Roll of Honor if you served in WW Two or Vietnam and lived in Calumet Township.” Even if you’re not from Calumet Township, stop by and check out all the work that has been done there to honor our Veterans.

The Roadside America page features the USS Kearsarge, built of rocks as a WPA Project in the 1930’s, which is a memorial to the 1862 naval ship with the same name. The article says it looks nothing like the original naval sloop, the U.S.S. Kearsarge, which was in service from 1862 – 1894 and that it’s far more interesting than the ship it’s meant to honor. Also mentioned is that the town of Kearsarge was named after the ship by a Calumet & Hecla mining employeee who had served on her during the Civil War.

Neil’s third photo is the Lake Guardian, the US EPA floating laboratory on a Lake Superior survey, off Eagle River, MI. Looks like a great day to be on the Big Lake.

If you’ve never been in a seaplane, today is your lucky day. Adam Johnson over at brockit, inc is taking us on the Seaplane over to Isle Royale. Adam said it’s always a fun run with those guys! Great pics & video. The Veteran's Memorial looks
really nice!

Droppin the pedal tomorrow morning, headed to
God's Country! It feels like Christmas lol. Those
who love the U.P. understand!! Some get it, some
don't and we wouldn't have it any other way!!

I know we're camping our way to the
Keweenaw...expected in the Keweenaw around the
18th, if I remember what the Vacation Planner
told me, wink, wink!!! :=))
Talk to you again from above the Mighty MAC!!
