Isaac Diener was out and about in the early morning hours to capture the Northern Lights recently, while the rest of the Copper Country was fast asleep. He said he snapped these shots from 2:30 a.m. to 4:00 a.m., from Eagle Harbor to Dan’s Point on the Keweenaw Peninsula north shore. It’s neat to see the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse lit up, along with the skyline and what looks to be a freighter out on Lake Superior in lights, too.

I think that’s the Milky Way constellation in Isaac’s last photo, correct me if I’m wrong. The stars are too numerous to count, but so amazing as they fill up the entire sky, with no room for more. It’s photos like these that account for this area often being referred to as God’s Country.

In today’s video, courtesy of the Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula Facebook page, we join Hannah Rooks, along with Dickie and Cindy Selfe, Stewards of the “last and best strands of uncut white pines”, for a short tour of he Estivant Pines in Copper Harbor.

Estivant Pines are always worth a visit, and the area also has some truly large and spectacular Sugar Maples!
