What a difference sunshine can make in the midst of winter here in the Keweenaw. Brita Haapala, the lady behind the camera at Brita Caroline Photography, captured some of the bright beauty we love to see mid-winter, giving us hope that there will be sunshine and warmth again. Can you see the snowmobiles crossing the highway in Brita’s first photo? That’s the curve on US41/M26, right before you come into the Phoenix area, along with your first look at the Cliffs. The rest of the shots are pretty much self explanatory, just sit back and soak up the sunshine on the snow in these scenes.

We have another garage clearing video today, with a different type roof rake, called an avanlanche. Taana Blom made this video of her hubby clearing their roof, after installing a new tarp on their contraption. You have to admit, that works pretty slick. Taana did comment that it works great for new snow, but it struggles with a melt and then re-freeze. She said her hubby had the garage roof done in about 10 minutes.

That is so cool how the snow comes off in "cakes". Guess it occurs when a section of snow lands on the tarp and then slides down. Is that contraption 100% home made, I wonder?

Know that snowmobile trail very well. One year we
were stopped to help out with a snowmobile
accident by transporting EMT's to the site.

We use the Bob method of snow removal but would sure like to upgrade to Taana's! Seems like we have seen a unit like that before but don't know if it's a commercial product or not. If not, someone could make a lot of $$ on that!

The sunshine on the snow is beautiful!

For those questioning the Avalanche, they can be
purchased! Amazon has them and for those local to
the area Swift's in Houghton carries two versions.
This one is really old but works great, especially
with the new tarp. :D

Thanks Taana! How much mileage do you get before you have to replace the tarp?
