Melanie Hakala Rossi and friends made a snowshoe trek this weekend, to what she describes as “The Keweenaw’s Hidden Beauty”. At first glance, I thought she was at the Eben Ice Caves (Stay tuned later this week for more adventure). But Melanie said this was the Redridge area near Freda, somewhere between Redridge and Beacon Hill. Those cliffs are amazing with the sheer height (checkout the size of the people next to the walls), not to mention the thick ice clinging to the walls. The group snowshoed along the shoreline, with thick ice, covered with snow. Someone asked where the water comes from, but Melanie wasn’t sure. She said that’s another adventure, for another day, to figure out the source above these cliffs.

Today’s video shows Bob Gilreath clearing his garage/shed roof with a roof rake and his wife, Liz, videoing the event. The rake works pretty well, but I’m really impressed with the step up on the tailgate of the truck!

Beautiful pics and smart video... Be careful Bob,
No Slipping and falling allowed!! :=))

I have one of those step-ups too on my '14 F-150. Sure comes in handy for us older and less-than-limber folks.

Very nice ice, Cliff.
I used to rake mine and my mother's roof in the
winter...an impossible task now. Two reasons; my
mother passed away and I sold her house, and my
M.S.

Gorgeous pics~! That one looks like a huge root
beer ice lick!

And that roof raking is HARD work...Snow is hard
work...but it sure can work FOR you!

My 2017 F-150 has no built-in step up *sigh*. Until I bought a small step stool I would face the lowered tail gate and bend forward at the waist so just my belly was on the tailgate. Then I would twist sideways and raise one leg at a time. After wriggling around for quite a bit like a floundering whale on the beach, my entire body would be on the tailgate where I could then make my way to standing up. Of course that is after resting awhile to catch my breath. Obviously, I try to avoid performing this maneuver in public areas.

Beautiful day at the beach, Red Ridge that is. I've always wanted to make it to the beach down from the old Freda Mill.

D.A. .... been there lol, I carry a step ladder w/
handle on top, and brace it against the side of the
tailgate when it's down. Also, my old hockey stick
for my "grabber". It's •••• getting old lol, I used
to jump in and out of pickup beds like it was
nothing, now.... Falling is not an option!! :=))

D.A....I tried that maneuver unsuccessfully years
ago, now I just use it when I go to bed.
