Sarah Derry is a born and bred Yooper, but lives downstate now. She recently made a trip back “home” to bring her collage age son to spend the summer with his grandparents, as his internship for a company was canceled due to Covid-19. Sarah, her husband and her son had Coronavirus tests to be sure they weren’t bringing the virus with them and then spent a few days sightseeing before heading back downstate. Sarah said getting out to High Rock Bay was on her “bucket list”, so she can now cross that one off. It looks like they picked a great day to head to the tip of the Keweenaw, as the water was quite calm, with barely a ripple on the surface. It’s not a trip that can be made in just any car, you need a vehicle with some clearance, for the bumpy road to get there, not to mention going through the mud holes along the way. But that actually adds to the peace and quiet you’ll find out there, since not everyone has the means to get there.

We have one more video moment from Steve Brimm today. With all the rain we had during the Cristobal storm last week, the Manganese Falls in Copper Harbor was running quite nicely. A much needed boost in waterflow for this beautiful falls.

Mary, you are so right about the obstacles making it less crowded - and while that'll stop us now too, it's a good thing. High Rock Bay will probably never be crossed off our bucket list, so we enjoy these pictures!

Gorgeous! I thought about finding High Rock once, but I couldn't find good directions so I wimped-out.

Beautiful pic's and waterfall!! I'd love to be 4
wheelin out there in the truck, little Marshall
Tucker on the CD, cold diet coke and some
Vollwerths summer sausage sticks. Get out to High
Rock and go for a swim!! Then off maybe to
Keystone Bay for another dip!! Oh man, I gotta
go, I'm starting to drop tears in my ice tea!! :)

Indeed U.C. High Rock Bay and Keystone Bay have a very special place in my heart. You forgot the deer jerky.

Puddles on the way to High Rock Bay - yes! But they actually have
hard bottoms and not likely in my experience to suck in tires. "Have
adequate clearance" is no understatement.

Went to Highrock once, w/a friend in his 4 wheel
drive. Took us 45 mins to go 15 miles! That's a
trip indeed....but holy wha man....what a gorgeous
start to Michigan~!

U.P. there is where Michigan starts!!

Everyone knows the REAL start of U.S.-41 is 7.5 miles a bit further east. I used a bit of photoshoping just so the sign would stand out a bit better due the to 100Kb size of uploads here.

Start of U.S.-41

You may have to fight Dr. Nat for it! ;-)

Hopefully, we'll be able to get out there again this year. Right now, we're not even sure we'll make it to the Keweenaw.
