Da Brudders Adventures Facebook page has two brudders that have been busy lately with some winter exploring. It seems the brudders go out in all kinds of weather, too, from the sunny picnic spot overlooking Lake Superior, to the highway scene obliterated for the most part by snowy conditions. Those two photos illustrate the two extremes during out Keweenaw winters. Their third adventure shot, shows how deep the snow gets in these here parts. So deep, that food for the deer is hard to come by and even harder for the deer to move around looking for it.

To help the deer survive the Keweenaw winter where we typically get 300+ inches of snow a year, there are “Deer Wintering Complexes” designated by the Michigan DNR. Today’s video was made by Synthia Marsh recently, at one of those feeding stations in the Keweenaw where between 150 – 200 deer are fed each day, from the first Monday after January 1st, to mid-May. The majority of the specially formulated deer pellets are provided by the Calumet-Keweenaw Sportsmen’s Club. They have purchased and distributed 22 tons of pellets to the local permitted deer yards and have funds to purchase another 22 tons. Typically they distribute around 60 tons per year and are currently lacking the funds to purchase the additional 16 tons that are needed. If you’d like to help with a donation, you can do so by following this link: Keweenaw Sportsmen. Then click on the “Donate” button in the top right corner. All donations are greatly appreciated!
