We welcome a new Pasty Camist today, Mike Rezabek. He was recently in Houghton when the lights and the snow were making the city look like a Christmas card scene. Some of the comments Mike’s photos received were: “That’s some snow globe stuff there”, “Awesome, soft feeling”, “I know it isn’t, but the bridge looks eternal in this photo”. Those are pretty much the same sentiments I had viewing these shots. The only thing I can add, is they make Houghton look quite magical.

Our video today is from Walker Enstad, who is going to take us on a fly-over of the Houghton area, with some pretty dramatic scenes and music.

A somewhat disappointing video today, unlike yesterday’s video, this one uses some very abrupt transitions, making it hard to follow, jerks you around … “Huh? What happened? Where did we go, and how did we get there?
The music was pleasant, though.

It looks like there has been quite a lot of traffic on the canal.
Snowmobiles? Is the canal frozen solid and deep enough for that?

I love the “Beautiful downtown Burbank, er… Houghton” scene. Though still “early season”, it reminds me of slogging on foot from DHH to the Lode theater in Houghton, or the Pic in Hancock — or even the beautiful old Kerridge theater — during my Freshman year at “da Tech”, and crossing that rickety old swing bridge with its rotting, broken wooden walkway. Eeek!
