Congratulations to the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes, who beat the West Iron County Wykons, 36 – 14 this past Saturday in Iron River. This moves the Lakes on to a Division Eight district final game with the Ishpeming Hematites, in Ishpeming this coming Saturday, November 9th at 1:00 p.m. EST. It you can’t make the trip to watch the game, it will be broadcast on either Kbear 102.3 or 97.7 The Wolf. You can click on either of those links to get to their live stream.

LET’S GO LAKES!!

Today’s first photo from the Lakes/Wykons game comes from Krista Poirier, who captured Lakes #20, running for one of their five touchdowns. The second photo was snapped by Stacey Sedar, of her daughter and a friend, waiting in Lake Linden after the game, to welcome the Lakes Team home. A trivia tidbit: The Lakes are the smallest 11 man football team in the State of Michigan.

It’s been a long running tradition during playoffs, for the Lake Linden, Hubbell, Tamarack and Bootjack Fire Departments to meet the bus carrying the team home, just outside of Tamarack and then escort them to the school with their lights flashing and sirens blaring. Steph Lebo captured the excitement of the welcome home parade Saturday evening to share with us. I don’t know about you, but it chokes me up, watching this, remembering the excitement when my own boys were playing. (P.S. The young man in the first photo, running for the touchdown, is one of Steph’s twin sons).

Quite the reception!

By James W. Hird (Wvyooper) on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 - 05:50 pm:

Question:
By littlest do you mean lightest weight in their class or the fact that there are only 11 players and all others have more players?

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 - 03:28 am:

James (Wvyooper)... This is from the Daily Mining Gazette: "LAKE LINDEN — The Lake Linden-Hubbell High football team may be the smallest Class D school in the state playing the 11-man game, but the Lakes still pack plenty of punch." It means the smallest school, as in number of students. I should have said smallest Class D school in my notes. Hope this makes sense now.

How exciting. When I went to school our teams
were never real good, but we supported them
anyway. How exciting for the players, fans,
parents, coaches and everybody involved in this
football program. Wish I could be there. But
since I can't, I'm very excited to say that our
Annandale, MN team are also going to state
again. It's going to be an exciting weekend.
Go Lakes and go Cards! P.S. loved the video

Wow!

Talk about community spirit for a team!!

I'm in Texas, which is noted for its high school football, and I'd have to say the Lakes have just as much support as any team down here.!!!
