Jeff Dennis took the opportunity to head up to the top of Mt. Ripley this past week and snap some photos of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, surrounded by the near peak colors here in the North Country. What an outstanding view you get of the surrounding areas when you’re up there, including the look all the way up what used to be called ‘Van Orden’s Hill’ back in the day. Taking a look back in the archives on October 3, 2004, we featured a photo from Donna MacIntosh’s Shoebox, that was taken in October of 1979, when M-26 was being reconstructed. The only recognizable building there at that time, was the Pamida building, which is now Kirkish Furniture. Quite a few changes in the past 40 years!

Today’s video of the views of the Lift Bridge, Houghton, Hancock and Ripley were filmed by In the Keweenaw last week, also. Enjoy the morning glow!
