Danielle Adams is one lucky gal, she has connections with a number of sailors on various freighters that come into port at the Marquette Ore Docks, so she’s been able to tour a few of the big boats when they’re in town. Just recently one of the Engineers aboard the Michipicoten received permission from the Captain to get Danielle on board for a tour, making it the 5th boat she’s toured so far. She was even treated to lunch with the crew. She said there are sixteen sailors on the Michipicoten and they were all really nice. The fourth photo is Danielle and the Engineer that gave her the tour. She had many photos from inside the boat, also, but we can only share so many here and figured you’d enjoy being right on deck and seeing the chutes and ore filled hold up close.

Danielle also had a chance to watch them loading the hold and made a video to share with us all. If you have your speakers turned up, you’ll be able to hear the pellets sliding from the chutes into the hold.

Danielle sure is lucky to be able to tour all
of these magnificent boats. I have a lot of
respect for these guys who work on these boats
and spend so much time on the big lakes. So
scary but so necessary. Thanks for always
sharing your pictures with us Danielle.

Nice pix & video! Been in that exact spot on the top pic many times, like everyone else that has been to Marquette!

I like those Great Lakes steamers with the pilothouse at the bow.

I agree Thomas. Nice to see where you are about to go, rather than to watch where you have already been.

Danielle is indeed one lucky gal.

It is interesting to see just how small is the volume of what is presumably a full load of iron ore pellets.

Tricky operation...keeping it level.

Thanks all!! It was a beautiful day for sure to get a tour. The
crew even signed my 16x20” photo I gave to them to sign for
my collection. If you want to see more pics and videos add me
on Facebook.
