George C. Bailey has done it once again, photographing the sky over Lake Superior during a developing storm last week. He skillfully manages to capture the power and energy as it builds into lightning, creating outstanding photos of an event that we might not otherwise see. George said these were taken on the north shore of the Keweenaw Peninsula near Dans Point, just west of Copper Harbor, between midnight and 1:00 a.m. I sure hope he got to take a nap later in the day after being up so late.

I couldn’t find a video that even came close to George’s captures, but did find one from back in July of this year, published by ‘In The Keweenaw’, showcasing an unusual yellowish, orange colored sky. It was near sunset and quite dark, but there was this yellowish color cast over everything. Interesting, indeed!

Allright, I gots to say it: That's some really stunning photography by George C. Bailey!

And that video "Strange Sky - In The Keweenaw"? Wow! You'd think that was an old film from days of yore, done with sepia processing in the darkroom to resemble the effect of aging in old photographs, or with a sepia tone option in a modern digital camera.

Incidentally, that DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone certainly produces great results — with no shaky bumpies; you'd think that video was done with a very 'spensive professional Steadicam stabilizer!

OH.MY.Gosh!!! Those pictures are about as good as
any I've ever seen. There are no words! Stunning
comes to mind! Thanks for sharing these!

About the video, it's called the photographic golden hour, most vibrant as the sunset progresses. This example is very outstanding. In addition to the variable effects of clouds at various altitudes during sunset, forest fire smoke can sometimes dramatically enhance the effect
