I guess you could say that Jeff Dennis was in the right place(s) and the right time(s) when he captured today’s shots. That’s the Paul R. Tregurtha he spotted as it was passing by the Copper Harbor Lighthouse, so he quick snapped a photo and then headed to Eagle Harbor to see if he could grab a shot of the Tregurtha passing by the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse, too. Pretty neat to get both lighthouses with the Tregurtha in the shot, too. I don’t care how many times you spot a freighter on Lake Superior, it’s always a thrill to see those big boats out there.

Earlier this year, Boat Watching in the Soo published a video of the Paul R. Tregurtha and the Federal Dee as they passed by each other in Soo Harbor. It gives a good perspective of the size of the Tregurtha (1000 ft. long; 100 feet wide), compared to the smaller Federal Dee (656 ft. long; 78 ft. wide).

I've seen the Tregurtha in Duluth so many
times. I never tire of it though. And how
could you ever get tired of the Eagle River
lighthouse? Great pictures!

My but that snow and ice arrived quickly — in the time it took Jeff to get from Copper Harbor to Eagle Harbor! And it's not even October yet! 😉

FRNash...perhaps you should look a little closer at the second photo, it was taken the same day as the first, but a bit later in the day as the sun was going down. That's a wave to the right of the rock in the front of the photo and a splashing wave on the rocks below the lighthouse. It was taken in July, thank you.

Aww, how sweet of you! 😠

I guess I've been away and living in the Airyzony desert for so long that I don't remember what ice and snow look like.

My first reaction to the Eagle Harbor picture was that it was indeed ice covered. Then I noticed the rocks and land around the lighthouse were barren of any snow or ice. Closer inspection revealed the wave detail that Mary mentioned. Interesting how the angle of the Sun's reflection on water can alter the shading and surface appearance.

Well, Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck), do you have some equally kind remarks for D. A. (Midwested) now too? 😠

I was really trying not to pick sides. As in most situations there is usually truth and legitimacy on both. But I always try to avoid reliance on emojis to convey humor or sarcasm. I usually fail when doing so.
