This past Sunday, Judy Byykkonen and friends transported their kayaks to Keweenaw Bay, between Baraga and L’Anse and lucked out with flat water for paddling, not to mention interesting shorelines to explore. The view is a plus, too, looking out from the head of the Bay in the first photo, with the water looking like glass, not a ripple to be seen. Judy’s second shot shows a small sampling of the layers of shale she spotted along the shoreline there, too. After the ladies were done kayaking, Judy took a dip in the water, too, reporting that the Big Lake is much warmer there in the Bay!

Nancy Haun shares a sunset video she made on a beautiful evening at Keweenaw Bay. Seems like the perfect ending to Judy and friends adventure, too.

Thank you Mary. In the past I have written a few times about interesting land formations called Tombolos, where islands near to shore become connected to the mainland due to wave and wind actions. One can find several around The Lake. Your Youtube link led me to another blog that supplied new information about the Tombolo in Keweenaw Bay at Pequaming. Well, it turns out that supposedly, Pequaming is the Chippewa word for Tombolo. Who knew?
