I recently read a description of the days that we honor our military and I thought it explained quite well which holiday honors which military that have served or are serving still:

Armed Forces Day – the third Saturday in May – For those who currently wear the uniform.

Veteran’s Day – November 11th – For those who used to wear the uniform.

Memorial Day – the last Monday of May – For those who never made it out of the uniform.
With that being said, today we honor those who lost their lives serving our country. Thank you to all the men and women who gave their all for our American Freedoms. And thank you to their families that served alongside them and miss them every day. God Bless them all.

Mary Schmitt shares a video of the Memorial Day Program that the Lake Linden American Legion Post 90 held last year in front of the Veteran’s Memorial by City Hall. These Veterans hold this observance every year on Memorial Day at 9:30, then they head to Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden for a 10:30 ceremony at the Veteran’s Plot and then out to the Jacobsville Cemetery for an 11:30 ceremony. Still serving their country and communities, honoring their fellow service members and giving the community a chance to show their gratitude also.

Freedom is not free!

If you are able, attend a Memorial Day parade or service to honor those who gave all.

Blessings to all our Vets...especially to those who
gave all.

On another note, what happened to Sundays? Nothing
but a pic anymore??

In honor of our veterans:

Freedom Isn't Free
by Kelly Strong

I watched the flag pass by one day
It fluttered in the breeze
A young Marine saluted it, and then
And then he stood at ease

I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd

I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?

How many Pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, Freedom isn't free

I heard the sound of taps one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill

I wondered just how many times
That taps had meant "Amen"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives

I thought about a graveyard
at the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, Freedom isn't free!

Again...Blessings to all who give...and a memory to those who gave it all. So much to be thankful for.
