George C. Bailey recently captured a beautiful, star-filled night scene and described it as follows: “Illuminance provided by lunar reflectance on the north shore of the Keweenaw Peninsula over looking Lake Superior.” So dark, yet so bright at the same time. You don’t see sky like this in the city, that’s for sure.
Our second photo comes from the Cedar Bay – UP Michigan Facebook page and shows off an interesting skyline over Lake Superior, actually a bit ominous looking and was the precursor to our blast of winter last week.

We have a short video from the Houghton area to give you an earful of those peeper spring sounds when it’s just getting dark here UP North. Turn up the volume and enjoy the serenade.

Very nice!
I received an email from Michael DuLong yesterday, here is what he said:

"Alex, been way too busy moving to a smaller house and taking care of my wife. She had a lung transplant and I am her caregiver. The last four years have been life changing. Say hello to everyone and I will try to get on Pasty soon. Mike"

During my MTU days we went to the top of Brockway
one moonless night about 11Pm. The only artificial
light was from the single bulb on the yard light
for the gift shop. The stars were so bright that
you could read a book by starlight.

Once again, great pic's and video! Looking forward to vacation this Summer!!

Nice to read about M. DuLong, hopefully he and others will get back on Pasty and share their comments. For me, it's a daily ritual, or I at least catch up the following day, don't always post, but I need to log on to get my daily fix of God's Country !! :=))

Alex,

If Michael does not read this, tell him I and many others can totally relate to his caregiving life changes. My wife had a liver transplant at age 46. It provided an additional 17 years of happy and mostly productive life. The times leading up to the transplant were indeed a struggle though and for a awhile afterward. Hang in there and know you will get through it all.

Brockway is one of the few great dark sky locations in the Midwest that are both readily accessible and elevated. Milky Way viewing to the south is best during June, July and August.

Here is a link to a Dark Sky Finder interactive map.

The photo of the night sky is stunning.

A daily fix of Pasty.com and the UP is what I need to brighten my day.
Sadly I'm too far away to see the scenery on a regular basis.

Home is Cornwall, UK

I'll pass it on D.A.
