Joe Kirkish spends considerable time volunteering at the Bluffs, so he gets to see the beautiful view of West Houghton that the folks that live there see every day. He snapped these two shots recently, with the first one looking out toward Quincy Hill. You can just make out the Quincy Mine Shaft up there, along with a number of Houghton businesses down below the Bluffs. The second photo is looking further up the road with more of the businesses that dot Memorial Drive/M26. See if you can name some of the places in these views.

We have modern equipment to take care of the snowfall here UP North nowadays, but back in the 1930’s era, it was a bit rougher going. MDOT put out of newsreel donated to them by Nancy and Barbara Sleeper, whose grandfather, Sanborn Sleeper was the Superintendent of the Luce County Road Commission back in 1928 until sometime around WWII. Enjoy this historical look back at Winter in Michigan.

Nice pix and I like the look-back to previous years feature...is that new? Lot's of names that I haven't seen in awhile.
