We start out today’s review with a shot from our own, Charlie Hopper that he posted in 2013. We had a very slow start to the snow season, that year, but the cold and snow resumed its usual wintery conditions, with it a little colder than normal. So cold, in fact, that the authorities in Hancock canceled the polar bear dive that year. After the snow stopped falling (and power was restored everywhere) Charlie made the rounds to restore wireless Internet service to our Pasty.NET members. It must have been a dandy snow event!

Winter Northern Lights have a beauty all their own with the snow lighting the ground and the Aurora’s lighting the skies. This archive shot appeared here in 2015, taken by Jeremy Rowe of Keweenaw Night Sky Photography. Check out the two bright lights on the horizon at water level. Those are two freighters on Superior, before the closing of the shipping season that year.

Our third photo is a beautiful Aurora Borealis shot from earlier this month, snapped by a new to the Pasty Cam photographer, George C. Bailey. The “cloudy” area of the sky, to the left of the brightest Aurora in this photo is the Milky Way. The number of stars that show up in this shot is absolutely stunning! Today’s video is a “Behind the Scenes look at National Parks Adventure”. It originally was supposed to be filmed during the winter at Yellowstone, but they didn’t have enough snow, so the filming crew had to scramble to find a different National Park location and settled on the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising. Watch and see all the complications they encounter and overcome, filming in below zero temperatures. Published by MacGillivray Freeman in 2016.
