With our focus being constantly on the U.P. over the years, we sometimes lose sight of the fact that history here didn't evolve in a vacuum. As streetcar travel was developing in the Copper Country, systems were also evolving in population centers all around the country (and the world). One nearby metropolis in the upper Midwest is Minneapolis-Saint Paul, the subject of today's short video. A lot of the dates mentioned in this short documentary mirror those development in the mining capitals of the U.P.

The snow-covered scene of the top photo, from Copper Country Reflections - featured first on the Pasty Cam in 2008 - reminds us of the ongoing blizzard all across the US today. And cold temperatures - wah! Currently all out of heat across the U.P. as almost every town is around zero.

Interesting video. I used to own a money changer like the one shown in the video when I was paperboy back in the 60s. Did I deliver the Free press?...no. Was it the Detroit News?...no. It was Zig-Zags, man! And if I had a pack right now, I'd light up...just for the warmth.
