I know I said this before, but even with the majority of the leaves blanketing the ground, there is still indescribable beauty here in the North Country. Our archive look-back begins in 2000, with the original Pastsy Camist, Jonathan Hopper. He just happened to be by the lift bridge, just as it raised to let the Isle Royale Ranger pass for one of its last trips for the year. Of course we can’t see that in this photo, since the Bridge was shrouded in fog that morning.

In 2005, William Pekuri found some UP North beauty within the changing seasons on the shore of Lake Superior. There were still some leaves hanging on in this shot, which seems to be the case when trees are located near the water, they tend to be a bit later with the blooming colors. You can always count on Lake Superior to give you beauty with each passing season and fall morphing into winter is no exception.

Cindy Freeman took a walk around the Point Iroquois Lighthouse grounds back in 2010 and snapped the wonderful shot of the building architecture, surrounded by fall. Even without much color, this is a striking photo. Located near Brimley, MI, this light guides many a boater around the tricky entrance/exit to the St. Mary’s River.

In The Keweenaw published a beautiful video tour over Michigan Tech, filmed in mid-October of this year. They said as they were uploading it a day after making the video, the weather had abruptly changed and there was snow on the ground. Enjoy a couple week look-back at what Autumn looked like on the Tech campus this year.

Ah yes UC, the old Blue Goose, the Convair 580.

I remember flying it before Republic Airlines existed, back when it was North Central Airlines. My most memorable flight was the puddle jumper route from Houghton to Marquette to Escanaba to Menominee to Green Bay and then back again. Of course most of the time, the puddles were all frozen. I didn’t fly very much but once when returning from Grand Rapids we were attempting to land in Escanaba in the middle of a typical blizzard. We finally exited the white-out but we completely missed being over the runway. It looked as if you could reach out and touch the control tower. I could see the expression on the controller’s face. The pilot, ever so calmly, announced that we would not be stopping at Escanaba today as he throttled up the engines and we proceeded to Marquette. All the Escanaba passengers were told they’d be put on a bus in Marquette. I’m not sure if I was really the only ticketed Houghton passenger that day but everyone else got off in Marquette and I was all by myself on the last leg to Houghton.




I wonder what river that is in 2005.

D.A., I know 2005 isn't the Little Betsy River by our old place! lol But I wondered the same thing, maybe the N. shore towards Ontonagon or somewhere along M28???? Inquiring minds want to know???? :=)
