This is the time of year when the weather cannot quite decide if it should rain, snow or give us a few summer like days before winter actually arrives. Back in 2002, we had enough snow that these kids in Calumet, were able to roll themselves a huge snowball in their school playground. Dan Wenberg was on hand to capture the moment. I’m guessing it wasn’t overly cold that day, though, since there were a number of bare heads and unzipped jackets.

Andrew Stewart was visiting Eagle Harbor, along with his Dad Eric, back in 2007. Andrew snapped this outstanding nighttime view of the Harbor lit up. If you look closely above the treeline, you can see the red light on the lighthouse tower flashing, too.

Over in Marquette County, Christi Schmitt took a drive out to the CR-510 Bridge to check out the color back in 2016. Christi is actually standing on the bridge that replaced the one pictured, which the County kept rather than demolishing it after the new one was built. It has been preserved for its historic value and is open only to pedestrian traffic now. For more information about this historic bridge, check out the link above by clicking on the highlighted bridge name.

For a better view of the CR-510 Bridge and surrounding Autumn colors, we have a drone video made by Ryan Allpro of a fall tour he made in October 2016, same year as Christi’s photo above.

Don't recall if I've ever been over that bridge?

It would be interesting to know where all those kids from the top pick are today, how many are still in the U.P. and how far away have other's moved on?

UC,
I'm not one of those kids in the picture but I am one with them. I distinctly remember as a kid at school making those giant snow balls, usually bigger than us and often bigger than all of us put together. We would keep rolling them until we either ran out of wet snow, the energy to keep going or of course, the bell rang.

Hey UC,
I'm sure you've been on 510 ~ that's the back way to
Big Bay that you take starting at Midway. And that's
the bridge that they replaced with a modern bridge a
few years back just a bit upstream.
