When Paul and Nat Brandes took us to the A.E. Seaman 7 years ago, it was a brand new location, with visitors just beginning to discover it. One such discoverer was Steven Baumann, who toured it 10 months ago, resulting in this video. Even though I've lived in the Copper Country for 30 years, I have to admit I've never visited myself, so I found the extended tour very informative and fun. Hope you do, too :o)

The A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum is great. I took many photos there in 2013. They are in one of my Pasty Albums HERE.

Thanks for using one of our pics, Charlie!

If in the area, do stop by and ask to speak with the curator, Chris Stefano. He is a great guy and very knowledgeable about minerals and the museum.

Nice looking building. If I ever make it UP there again, I just may mosey on in.

Alex,

Even if you don't have time for the complete indoor tour, I suggest you swing by to see the new outdoor Copper Pavilion. It houses a 19 ton solid native Coppper slab, discovered by the Keweenaw's Bob Barron and Don Kauppi while they where scuba diving in Great Sand Bay.

Great Sand Bay Copper

The A.E. Seaman museum always had a fond place in my heart long before I became interested in geology. As a EE student at Tech in the early 70s, I discovered the entire top floor of the Hotchkiss EE Hall was home to the mineral collection. It was always a very quite place to study. I think the minerals "wore off" on me.

Here is the story of Bob's discovery and all he had to go through to get the monster nugget raised.
