We delve into the archive today and come up with a shot taken by Jon Hopper back in 2000, when he was attending Michigan Tech. He posted the Miner Statue on College Ave. in Houghton, saying that because of the Lift Bridge resurfacing and the traffic delays caused by lane closures, he had the privilege of giving this statue and garden a closer look, something he rarely ever did when passing by literally thousands of times before. A different version of “stop and smell the roses”, Jon stopped and checked out the Miner’s garden.

In 2004, Lyn Rayrat shared a tired old bus in the midst of colorful leaves beginning to put on a show. It was a perfect shot for this time of year, with school just starting up again and the leaves starting to change color.

This quaint little church was on the Pasty Cam back in 2012, shared by Eric Stewart. It’s the Jacobsville Finnish Lutheran Church, which is designated with a Michigan Historical Marker. It was built in 1888 and has been well preserved, including still intact furnishings inside, kerosene lamps and a wood stove that kept the congregation warm during the colder months. You just never know what you’ll find when you explore the unbeaten paths around the U.P.

Speaking of exploring the U.P., today’s video feature is about a bus that does just that. It’s called “The Bus Story” and the synopsis says: “We are staying cool for the summer months by exploring the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. From campsites to adventures and everything in between! Come see what the bus life is like!”

Nice pix and the video was good, but it skipped forward a bit to quick in places. And I think I see a new Olympic game in the future, whatever that was.

With only so much space on our biggest hard disks, or in our walk-in closets, can any of us make room for a Father in heaven or-closer by and more likely to be trampled by our thoughtlessness-the Mother under our feet?
