Half way up the western shore of Keweenaw Bay - near the lower entry to the waterway that makes the Keweenaw and island - is White City. We first explored there in 2001 with a vintage photo from a century earlier. Then we pedaled back there 5 years later with Frank Anderson for a swim on the bustling White City beach. Well, not really bustling... in fact that's what makes this region so unique. All this history and beauty, and not at all crowded, because it's out here on the edge of civilization, just waiting to be discovered. That's the message of the Keweenaw Convention and Visitors Bureau in today's brief video. The Copper Country, aka Keweenaw, is the place to be, especially this time of year.

Have a good week :o)

Following the construction of the Clock Tower on MT's campus. Quite interesting...

I love the beaches of White City. But then, what white sand beaches do I not love UP there? So much to see, and so many places to explore. My dad used to say that we shouldn't advertise. Keep them all away, lol. Charlie's right when he says "especially this time of year". This is the time of year I most miss being there. Have a great week, everybody.

I went back to the 2001 photo to read the comments.
John and Minnie Marsy had a daughter, Alice Betty Abramson. She was married to one of my grandpa's brothers, I believe it was Wesley Abramson. It is a small world up here....;O)

I do not remember which one is Marsy, in the picture.

I find the history of White City simply fascinating. While the rest if the Copper Country industry was busy with copper mining, lumbering and stone quarrying, there was a group of people in White City that built a very popular amusement park. So much so there are regularly schedule steamship ferries to and from Houghton and Hancock. It only began at the beginning of the 20th century and died with WWI. There is much of this history on display in the old Jacobsville school house, now a museum.
