We’re all over the Keweenaw today. We begin over at Isle Royale, with Rick Whitman. He spotted this bull moose in Tobin Harbor back in 2005 on his visit there. The moose seems to be checking out Rick, too. It’s always a treat to see a moose while there on the Island.

We head just a little way out of Gay with Donna MacIntosh for our next photo, from 2008. You cross the bridge that spans the Tobacco River, which in turn flows right into Lake Superior. I remember as kids swimming in the mouth of the river just before it joins the Big Lake, it was always warmer than Superior's waters.

Jumping ahead a few years, we land in 2012 in the archives, with Dan Kemp. He was standing in the Houghton RV Park when he snapped this shot looking across the Portage Canal toward Hancock. There are so many vantage points around the Copper Country, to find beautiful views and this is just one more that you may not have thought of before.

Currently here in the Keweenaw, we’ve experienced another heavy rainfall that caused additional flooding in some of the previously hard hit areas from earlier in June. The damage was not as severe, but it did set back a number of roads and basement clean-ups that had been fixed up or pumped out. Rather than share more shots of the mess, we have the sunset that ended the flooding day this past Thursday. Jean Dessellier captured this one from the Traprock Valley Road...the calm after the storm.

Bob Gilreath also shares a sunset with us, his is in video form, taken while on the Isle Royale Queen Sunset Cruise a week ago. Bob mentioned that this was the Manitou Island Cruise and that every Saturday in July, the Sunset Cruise is a fundraiser for the lighthouse restoration on Gull Rock there. Sit back and enjoy the calm waters and the setting sun lighting up the horizon.

The Sunset Cruise is a very enjoyable time. The
second time we went out they took us to the
shipping lanes and chased down the Mesabi Miner
for a couple miles. Highly recommend this!

It quite a bit warmer in Houghton than Chicago right now. I just read that some of the repairs made after last month's rain were washed out again. What's the expression, "come h*e*l*l or high water"...I will not be cancelling my vacation trip for later this summer.

Superb pix and video, although I had to look at the calendar when I saw the red-sky pick, thought I'd slept thru a few weeks. And 2005: Tobin Harbor Moose reminds me of an old Scottish saying: "If that's a moose, I'd hate to see a rat."
