When Lake Superior is in your backyard, so to speak, you get some dandy photo opportunities. The archives have a couple good ones today, starting with one Fred Koski shared with us in 2006. He captured a storm brewing out over the Big Lake, clouds and all.

Our next archive shot isn’t over Gitche Gumee, but is still a beauty, snapped by Brooke Gubacz in 2008. A beautifully colored rainbow over Lake Linden. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say the “pot of gold” really is here in the Copper Country...it’s been evident with the outpouring of help and aid for the flood victims across the area. It’s been nothing short of amazing so far, but much help is still needed and we can be the rainbow for someone in need of help to get their home or property back in order.

Mike Rudzi snapped a sunrise in progress at Eagle Harbor in 2009. I love how he included the Lighthouse in the shot. I can just imagine the peace and quiet he must have experienced in the early morning there that day.

We have another shot from UP North in the Keweenaw today, this one taken by Steve Brimm just a few days ago. It’s pretty amazing how the vastness of Lake Superior can make a 1000 foot freighter almost disappear in the photo. If it wasn’t for the smoke trailing out of the stack, you might not even spot the boat sailing along.

If you’re looking for a quiet moment to calm your mind from a busy workweek, then we have just the “medicine” for you with our featured video of a Sunrise over Lake Superior. My favorite part is the sound of the water lapping at the shore. Sit back and unwind.

2018...way to go, Steve! That one almost brought tears to my eyes.

Exceptional pictures on this National Camera Day.

The sunrise with the freighter is just beautiful ~ as
Mary said, it shows the vastness of our freshwater
seas. If you put the video on a loop i could play it
all day!

I see the National Guard may wrap up their efforts to
help the CC today. Thank you National Guard for
everything you did to help the recovery efforts!
Safe travels home!

I love the freighter picture also. This time of
year is always hard on me, but I'm feeling it
even more this year. I so want to be near the
lake. Being near the lake makes me feel
complete or something, as if something's missing
when I'm not around it. I've been tempted to
pack up and move UP there, or even North of
Duluth. But alas, the grandchildren are all
here. It's a big decision to make and I'm sure
we'll stay put at least until retirement.

I really love that first picture also. Again,
the lake is calling me.
