The archive has some interesting photos for this day. We start with one that was snapped in 1999 just outside of Mohawk on the road that goes to Gay. That’s the old establishment called The Bucket. I have no clue when it was in operation or when it closed, but nowadays it’s just a shell of bricks and mortar. I think it’s hidden by more trees than in this old shot, too.

We head to Eagle River for the next photo from 2003. Our Webmaster, Charlie Hopper took this shot when he and Edie noticed flames and smoke coming from the dam above the Eagle River Falls. The Allouez Fire Department was contacted and they swiftly came to put the fire out before any serious damage could be done.

Back on this day in 2013, an old photo dating back to 1919, when the Quincy Hoist House #2 was under construction, was shared by Mark Dennis. Then Charlie shared a photo that he took while up on the Quincy Shaft House catwalk, working on the Pasty.Net Wireless Broadband. That’s what the scene looks like nowadays. Pretty neat to see way back then and now like this.

Our video was also done by Charlie. It’s appeared here before, but I thought it was well worth repeating it once again, for those that haven’t seen it before and for those, like myself, who enjoy watching it again. It’s like watching a movie more than once, you always catch something you missed the first time. Enjoy the tour from the catwalk and then inside the Shaft House with Charlie.

Neat pix! If you zoom in and look at the first picture, the sign above the door looks like it says BAR. This would make sense, because the building looks stoned.
Does anyone know what caused the fire on the dam? My guess would be a firework that landed on it, or a prankster.

It never ceases to amaze me how baron of trees is the landscape during the mining era. I know the mines required a lot of support timbers but I also wonder how much was burned as fuel. Erosion must have been a real problem.

I'm down wit it, UC. A buddy of mine used to own a bar in Commerce Twp. and I would help him close at 2:30am, dragging out the die-hards.

Didn't the name used to be THE BUCKET OF BLOOD?
Seems like I remember that. I've never been in the place.

That Airstream trailer is worth some big money.
