Our archive adventure today, takes us from Houghton to Copper Harbor, with highlights of the uniqueness of our area. We start with an oldie from 1999 and the early days of the Pasty Cam, shot by our original Pasty Camist, Jon Hopper. Back then, Jon was traveling from Eagle River to Houghton to attend Michigan Tech, so he was able to capture amazing scenes like the Portage Lift Bridge lit by the setting sun.

The second shot is also from Jon Hopper, taken a number of years after he graduated from Tech, but was still trekking back and forth working for Pasty.Net. On one of those treks at night in 2008, Jon stopped to snap a view of the lights in Houghton. Can you spot the Lift Bridge among all the lights?

Our last archive shot for today, comes to us from 2009, taken by Cindy Freeman. It’s a well known and well loved sign that sat on the roof of the Harbor Haus in Copper Harbor. One of the original signs with this saying, used to be on US41, just before you entered Houghton. I’m not sure on the history of when the Harbor Haus sign first appeared, but truer words have never been printed. Take a deep breath when you get to the Copper Country, it’s some of the best air in the world!

In our video travels today, we sail Lake Superior, aboard Marquette’s flagship, the historic Coaster II. You can almost smell the crisp, clean air out there on the Big Lake!

That first picture is amazing! The video
made me want to say, "Calgon, take me
away". It's always fun to see surfers on
the big lake. I've seen it here on the
North Shore as well as the Great Sand Bay
area. The lake looked so beautiful when
they were diving. How could you ever tire
of that lake?

I agree, Deb...a neat video that is capturing scenes that make you say; "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh".

Love the sailing video. That captain understands the beauty and spirituality of being with natures forces.
