Seems like over the past 20 years, the Pasty Cam has always found somewhere interesting to go and something interesting to do. We head back to the earlier days, in 2001, with Daryl Laitila, at the Victoria Dam to do a bit of fishing. Check out the trees just beginning to turn green that year. It sure is a beautiful time of year when everything is sprouting and growing.

Jump one year forward to 2002 and we’re looking at the Historic Ripley Mining Buildings with Donn de Yampert. He also gives us just a peek at the Quincy Mine Shaft up on top the hill. So much mining history in this area, these old buildings are a reminder of how this area came to be.

Then in 2013, Bob Gilreath takes us for a ride to check out the old Wood-crib Dam in Redridge on the Salmon Trout River. This old dam formed a reservoir that supplied water to the Atlantic Stamp Mill, back in the mining days at Freda.

Arriving here in the present time, we join Laurie Bashaw on the shores of Marquette Harbor this past Sunday. I was surprised to see so much ice still floating around there in the Harbor. But there was so much ice built up around there, I guess it takes that much longer to melt or get blown off to another shore of Lake Superior. It will be interesting to see when the Harbor is finally clear of ice again.

The old wood dam in Redridge, was replaced in 1901 by a steel dam, which is a Michigan Historic Civil Engineering Landmark and said to be one of only three dams constructed like this in the United States. Copper Country Media is taking us to check out both dams in today’s video.

Just read an article about how much ice was still at
Marquette! Let's all go for a dip!

Nice pix and video! I was wondering why the dam was built and it appears it was constructed years ago to create a reservoir for the mining industry.

The Quincy Mine Smelter has a great tour now. It used to happen just a couple of times per year but they are really cleaning the place up and it is much more accessible now. I went 2 years ago. For anyone interested, I've got a large photo collection in my Pasty Gallery:

Great pictures and I loved the video. My
hubby and I spent some time exploring that
area a few years ago. We had such a good
time. I've had aunts and cousins who have
loved in Redridge. My dad spent a lot of
time there fishing. So much to see and
explore in one little area.

And they lived there, too! <wink, wink>
