Looking through the archive of Pasty Cam photos you often see views of the landscape that include the buildings and landmarks that identify the area they was snapped in. Like today's first shot from Taka Aoki back in 2003. There's no mistaking where this one was taken, with the Portage Lake Lift Bridge standing out amidst all the glowing lights. This was snapped from UP near the Quincy Mine.

In 2006, Tom Cook made a visit to the Big Bay Point lighthouse, which is an active beacon, along with a bed and breakfast with seven guest rooms. Looks like it was still decorated for the Christmas holiday, too.

We're back looking across the Portage Canal in our third shot, snapped by Sgt. Nate Tormala back in 2009. To give you a perspective on the location you're viewing, the two churches are St. Ignatius Catholic (the upper church) and Grace United Methodist (the lower church). You can tell winter definitely had its grip on the area, by the snowy roofs.

Since we're looking across the canal today in two of our archive shots, I figured it would be fitting to cross the canal, too, so we're joining Chris Beach on a snowmobile ride under the Bridge back in 2016. How fun to see what it's like underneath, especially if you're not a snowmobiler and have never traversed the Portage canal from this vantage point.

Bob & I have snowmobiled over the lift bridge many times, except we would stop for the posted stop signs on the trails....

As soon as I saw that first picture come up in it's small version, I thought, "Taka!" Sure wish I knew what he's up to now and that he'd come back for a vacation and TAKE PICTURES! You could do a Taka Day on here and show our favorite pictures of his from years ago!

Definitely worth tuning in here to see any picture
of the bridge. And that first one does not
disappoint.
