The Portage Canal between Houghton and Hancock has made many an appearance throughout the past 19 years of the Pasty Cam daily photos. Our photos today are a small sampling of them, starting in 2004. Melissa Hornyak captured a heavy bank of fog just over the Portage Canal. It completely obliterates the waterway, but stops short of covering the colors across the way on the Quincy Hill.

Our next morning sky scene was snapped by Bob Gilreath in 2005. He caught the sun making a rosy appearance in the early morning hours alongside the Michigan Tech Dow building on the Houghton waterfront. This was while Bob was still a "working man", traveling to work as the sun was coming up. I wonder how many sunrises he sees now that he's retired?

While Bob was just beginning his workday, Lindy Vencato was ending hers and on the way home from working night shift back in 2014 when she stopped to take this sunrise shot. What a blaze of glory coming UP over the Portage Lake Lift Bridge and Lindy framed this beauty with her cell phone camera that morning. What a perfect way to end your work shift.

We're heading over to a different waterway in today's video clip. Over on the eastern end of the U.P. near Sault Ste. Marie, for "A Sugar Island Sunrise", filmed by Norris Seward. He takes an early morning ride on the Sugar Island Ferry, with his buddy, Daisy on board and shares a few still shots of the sunrises, too.

Gorgeous pix and video! Was that a beagle driving that ferry? How can he afford that?

What beautiful pictures. One year when we were
leaving to come back home we had to stop at ShopKo
for something on the way out. I got great
pictures of the fog over the bridge. And about
half way through the video you can see the mist
traveling over the water. Absolutely breathtaking
video, too.

Hospitality means, treat your company like family and your family like company...less than a month until Thanksgiving.

Nice pictures of the impending daylight but I like the one of the canal blanketed in fog the best.

That was the Sugar Island Ferry in the video?

For just a brief few seconds, I thought that was the HMS Beagle. 😉
