This morning I find myself in Mackinaw City, where I arrived yesterday afternoon to find wall-to-wall people. Most of them are here for the same reason: Northern Michigan color. Of course, some in this sea of humanity are here because they live here and work here. Others (like me) are just passing through. But as I type these words less than 100 yards from the on-ramp to the Mighty Mac, I must say I'm excited by the prospect of driving across my beloved U.P. from east to west today, joining those color-seekers drinking in the beauty of God's country.

Just now I realize the 19 year review above (with the exception of 2006) has a common theme in every picture: leaves. We've sure seen a lot of colorful ones on the Pasty Cam during the last 19-and-a-half Octobers. The top one above is most embedded in my memory, the scene outside my bedroom window, looking down over the dunes in Eagle River. My son Jonathan snapped that back in 2000. Pat Siler and Brooke Gubacz are the other feature Pasty Camists, and the travel folks in Marquette provide the video of the day, a pleasant, colorful, musical interlude.

Wish we had more time to visit, but I better hit the road.

Have a good week :o)

Phenomenal....is there anywhere more beautiful on
this planet? NO!! Did a Copper Country/Keweenaw
cruise on Friday...the afternoon turned absolutely
stellar...what a gorgeous, gorgeous day! We are
just BLESSED to live here....

Beautiful photos and nice video!

Had a great time in the Keweenaw/U.P. last week, even tho too short. Colors were fantastic, and surprisingly most of the leaves were still on the trees, not at peak in my opinion and still large pockets of green.

Took time to cruise thru Marquette, and the University. The Campus looks great, lot's of changes and new additions. The Sports Complex down by the lake looks really nice as well!

Have a great Sunday, Go Lions!!

Ditto what UC said. That video was spectacular.
The bike rider made me a little nervous but then
there was the kids jumping and burying themselves
in leaves. Those were the days! UC, time UP
there is always too short!

Happy Sunday and Go Lions!!

Excellent pix, and the video...the video has a very artistic and dream-like quality about it. When it was over, I asked myself: "Who was I and where did go?" And all this was done without increasing the meds. :-)

Sounds like a great trip UC! Would love to see our alma mater again!

Did you climb Hogback? Any UP pinstripes on the new unit?

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Sunday, October 15, 2017 - 05:54 pm:

No pin stripes on the boss's new rig!! lol , did get it quite muddy on the Gratiot lake road from LB to U.S. 41, lot's of logging back there. Spent all morning today washing and detailing it for my better half.

Didn't take that much time anywhere to do any hiking JBuck, but did take a ride to Big Traverse to check out Deb's favorite place to swim, nice area!

Mary, I'll look you up on my next visit, didn't want to disturb you during the week, while you were working. We got back home Friday night.

All in all, it seemed like the whole U.P. was full of activity, enjoying the good weather and supporting the economy. Law enforcement was all over the place big time!! Got pulled over on M28 coming into Harvey by Chocolay Twp.'s finest for going a bit too fast, but he let me off with a warning, I thanked him, guess I was anxious getting so close to Marquette, lol

One more thing... did enjoy a #16 from Togo's in Marquette, I remember when that was the only Sub Shop in town, my how that has changed!! Houghton as well!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, October 15, 2017 - 07:27 pm:

Wow!! The Lions sure did score the points today.
Too bad they let up so many more. Another
disappointing day!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Sunday, October 15, 2017 - 09:05 pm:

I agree, Deb...and a lot of injuries all over the NFL. I'm thinking more protective gear is in order. What good is a game when players are carted off the field :-(

By Duane P. (Islandman43) on Sunday, October 15, 2017 - 09:56 pm:

For the life of me I don't understand how you can score 38 points and lose by 14 when you are playing at the highest level in football.
The last time the Lions won a championship my Father and I listened to it on the radio. No TV at home back in those days.

UC--- #16 was my favorite from Togo's. I like ordering by number.

Loved Togos!! Yep, Duane, I hear ya!
