Autumn colors continue to WOW us, with bursts of brightness from the last 19 years in the archives. Back in 2000, Jonathan Hopper snapped an interesting shot looking toward Quincy Hill and the color exploded on the hillside there. But what is that dome in the photo? It looks like a capital building, but in Houghton? Still stumped? It's actually a dome from the top of the Douglas House building in downtown Houghton. Jonathan snapped the photo from the parking lot of the Grace United Methodist Church in Houghton.

The second shot has always been one of my favorites…just such a peaceful scene, fishing on a quiet lake with the fall color surrounding you. Looks like a little slice of heaven right there. Jeff Massie snapped this one back in 2004, but never really said what lake in the U.P. this was. You know, good fishing holes are usually kept secret.

Then we have an outstanding blast of color from Joy Ziemnick, taken in 2015, as she toured around the Keweenaw looking for fall color. I'd have to say she definitely found it, some of the most brilliant colors around and all in one swoop with her camera!

Today's "current" view doesn't have any color showing, since we're looking toward Lake Superior from the top of Brockway Mountain in Copper Harbor, but look at the informational signs UP there. When I spotted this one in Don Afman's Gallery Album, I had to share it to show what the wind can do at that high elevation. It looks like Don had to hold on to his hat while he was snapping pictures on his Upper Michigan fall tour recently.

Since my favorite photo was about the color and a peaceful setting for fishing, I thought we'd end today's tour with a U.P. fishing adventure from 2012. William Tedrick and his nephew Harrison crossed the Mighty Mac heading to the Trout Lake area for a cabin on Lake Wegwas. They enjoyed peak colors, some wildlife neighbors and fishing for an entire week UP North. It doesn't get much better than this

Yay, the upper entry cam's fixed . . . and the foliage is spectacular too!

What great color this morning. We were on
Brockway in October when the wind was like that.
Came across the pictures just the other day.
Amazing! The video was quite enjoyable also!

These colors are a blessing to the eyes and I was thinking how timely and entertaining these videos have become. I can't travel like I used to, however the videos are the next best thing...thank you for the efforts.

I guess this is just a gentle breeze by hurricane standards.

Yep, one of the Douglas House ("Dog House") towers it is!

Who that has ever lived in Houghton any time since 1900 would not recognize those iconic towers?

This Google Street View is from the Isle Royale Street loop between Montezuma Ave and Shelden Ave, just across the street from the Grace United Methodist Church:

Well, Houston is my new team to beat. I was upset when Verlander left Detroit, but now what I see he's been doing in Houston...I'm a believer again. Besides, the Houston area deserves something to cheer about...go Houston!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, October 14, 2017 - 09:48 pm:

I'm with you, Alex. As soon as Verlander left
Detroit, Houston became my new team to cheer for
to win the World Series because Verlander deserves
to win. What a performance he had today. Love
it!!

Make that three! I thought the same thing about JV & Houston!

I must be mellowing because back in the day it would have killed me if they had traded Kaline!

By Duane P. (Islandman43) on Saturday, October 14, 2017 - 10:57 pm:

I think Verlander is one of the top pitchers in baseball. That being said, the game of baseball has changed radically. Verlander is perhaps the leader of complete games in his era. Counting today he has 24 complete games in his career spanning 13 years. In comparison, Mickey Lolich had 29 complete games in 1971 alone. There are so many relief pitchers on the roster now that there is no room left for a pinch hitter like Gates Brown to come off the bench in the late innings and hit a home run. I don't like the direction the game went in. That is just my opinion.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, October 14, 2017 - 10:58 pm:

I was not happy to see Verlander go at all. And
Al Kaline was my all time favorite. How I loved
him. When they traded Rocky Colavito I was
crushed. Threatened to not follow them anymore.
I was just a kid, but it still killed me. Been
following the Tigers since elementary school.
Sad to see what's happened to them the last few
years. Hopefully we're around when they make
their comeback. Maybe Houston will win the
World Series, Verlander will get his ring, and
come back to finsih his career with Detroit.
Sounds good to me. Oh yeah, was pretty ticked
when they traded JD also. Loved him!

By Duane P. (Islandman43) on Saturday, October 14, 2017 - 11:23 pm:

Deb: I was crushed when they traded to get Colavito. (I learned to like him though). They traded Harvey Kuenn to get him, one of the best shortstops in baseball and he ended up with a career 303 batting average. Those were the days my friend:)

Duane: They've made some pretty dumb trades over
the years!!

The very first MLB game my Dad took me took to was in 1962 at Briggs Stadium. I was 8 years old. I can still remember the home run Rocky Colavito hit. Beside Al Kaline my other favorite was Norm Cash. I think maybe because I just liked the name.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, October 15, 2017 - 07:26 pm:

My dad's favorite player was Norm Cash. We used
to argue over the 2, lol. I think he did it on
purpose to make me mad. Either way, they were
both awesome players.
